Since 2009, OTN has been working in the Minas Passage, Bay of Fundy. It's home to the world's highest tides, so some gear loss is expected. This year, our team hit a milestone: all 12 receiver stations were successfully recovered for the first time, thanks to improved mooring design. 🌊🎉

🌊 New acoustic array deployed in the Fundian Channel! This fall, our telemetry team worked offshore south of Yarmouth, NS, installing 18 acoustic receivers to monitor aquatic species in this ecologically rich region.

A few snaps from a late-August receiver maintenance trip in the Musquash MPA! 🔧🌊 We’ve been deploying and maintaining acoustic receivers here with Fisheries and Oceans Canada since 2018 to help track migratory and resident species, as well as build a long-term dataset supporting MPA management.

OTN-supported researchers are working to better understand how white sharks are using Nova Scotia's waters, especially near popular beaches. We’ve deployed acoustic receivers to track the movements of tagged white sharks & learn about their residency patterns and coastal habitat use over time.

Research in Québec’s Chic-Choc Mountains combined Indigenous and western knowledge systems to understand alpine aquatic ecosystems. OTN provided a loan of 25 acoustic receivers and tagging support to track brook trout. Read more: oceantrackingnetwork.org/annual-repor...

🎤 Mic drop… into the ocean. For #WorldOceansDay, we’re listening closely to the giants of the deep. Slocum gliders are equipped with hydrophones to listen for whale calls. These underwater microphones allow OTN collaborators to develop responsive policies to protect endangered whales.
