📣 JUST RELEASED: ODL has a new study in Science Advances, revealing that less than 0.001% of the deep seafloor has been visually explored. That leaves 66% of Earth unseen by human eyes. Today is #oceanexplorationday! On this day in 1960, Jacques Piccard and US Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh were the first to reach a record depth of approximately 10,911 meters (35,797 ft) in the research bathyscaphe Trieste in the Challenger Deep of the Mariana Trench near Guam in the Pacific.
