One Million Cars Parked!!!!

how many people started cycling during the #pandemic? only to #rack their #rides once it was "over." Well, if every one of those neuveaux cyclists started riding day in and day out.. we'd be on our way

Palmyra Atoll.. my first planned #landfall after I set sail from Hawaii.. about 1700Km and if I miss it by an inch, i miss it by a mile.

gonna do Google Earth (not promoting one brand over another) circuit of the island.. on water and land to preserve its memory as sea levels rise and swamp it out.

just learned that James Bowers passed away.. a cool character with many stories from the early days of rock n roll..

farewell Jamie.. it was great knowing you. So happy to see the last few years being calm and filled with love.

I've been in #terrace (BC) for a couple weeks and this was the last view i had of my boat. Miss her already.. every night i go over #nextsteps to finish her off and i'm hoping that i'll be able to go back in a week or so to.. do the tasks.

sitting here in the rain, i've recently added cocteau twins to my playlist.. by way of a flashback in a flashback.. i used to listen to Blue Bell Knoll every night before i dropped out.. I'd come back to my OneRoom and flip it on, on repeat.. all night long so.. when Heaven or Las Vegas came out.. I grabbed a copy right away and it became the soundtrack to cycling from Phoenix to Los Angeles. If you've done that drive, its not too long but i have poignant, piqued memories of that passage for it was more than just physical/ geographical passage.. there was a deep psychological growth that took place as i meandered along that highway. first, yes- i was leaving behind a wonderful woman. She had shown me that her heart was pledged to someone else and the only way i could win her affections was to fight, tooth and nail.. to show her i meant business. I didnt wanna do that so, she married the guy that got shot and ejected out of the zepplin in the film 'The Rocketeer.' And i went on to.. different psychological groundings. and that was the thing- i was making more of a mental space growth and passage.. so, sitting on the side of the highway with my blue 1990 Rockhopper loaded to bear for hitch hiking (minimally for bike touring).. and digging a small hole for lunch fired Mr. Noodles.. any song from Heaven or Las Vegas brings me back there.. instantly.. and with full force. in the composition of this, i've forgotten to mention a few things.. so be it. there has been a lot of personal growth in my life.. i'm hoping that- thru OceanCyclist- i can massage the last stage(s) of this journey towards positivity for i positively have experienced the detractional or distasteful effects of abuse.. my partner is island there to. My child, a palm tree on said island providing escape from sun and weather.. both embolden my soul .. and i hope that when Ocean Cyclist reaches conclusion i can be the man they see me as. **still listening to cocteau twins, btw ;) **

its been a couple #weeks already.. and i miss sitting, looking forlorn in to the hull and making pensive plans in my head. Spent today @ the local Farmers Market and talked to a bunch of ppl.. about the boat, about the purpose.. about the route.. and ran in to one of my first ever nude models!

in #calgary prepping for the next art show that starts this saturday (July 26 @ 1pm, #Bowness.. @teenytinyartcollective (insta) for deets).. and, kinda dejected..

#radioshow is put on #hold.. apparently i need to be onsite for training.. even tho i explained- i'm not local to them. I'll look more.

Here we see 5x7 cards in envelopes as well as self- printed and folded promo cards/ handbills to draw people in to the exhibition and handbills to attract artists to the next show which is titled 'Identity' and its start date will be announced shortly.

so Boat2 first- only TheBoat has a tentative name at present.. the pencilled in name of Tooker in honor of Tooker Gomberg, a big inspiration to me.. so, Boat2 (promoting the naming contest is about to be redeoubled in outreach and promotion) is missing it's two seats, a chunk of hull.. its dialled for the captains seat to be mounted, the prop drive to be installed and.. the transmission to be set in place and.. tested out. the only work i want to do before hitting the water is install the removable rudder.. it will have a carbon post, a thru- hull .. and be cable actuated but once done i can put her in the water and test out gears.. being on the water.. and more. once i head out.. once i set sail, Boat2 will be my extra stock trailer.. all my not so needed hardware and equipment and food will be stored in her (after rebuilding her hatch set up to be nicely watertight) and towed behind me. Nothing i cant live without but she'll be extra space. i'm getting psyched to get work done on her.. and get down to business in YYC to finish off TheBoat. head over to oceancyclist.com .. shop items have been switched to CDN funds, my book is still free shipping worldwide .. single instance Donation is live AND memberships are set up so for the price of *about* one coffee a month you can make a huge difference in the progress of this project.

went up to #princerupert for their C- can market celebrating the docking of the #loveboat .. here for a few hours during overcast skies.. it's good to stretch the mental legs and get out of Terrace for a day.
trying to get comfortable with selfies.. it was cool to check out this tiny cruise ship... i mean, 3080 guests on board is 'tiny' compared to other ships.. but the cruise ship industry has an abysmally horrible worker rights and environmental track record with nearly 100% of their grey water being dumped before entering national waters and reports of solid aaste being dumped is, likewise, prevalent. One reason i am working to dial my boat in to a 'LeaveNoTraces' option- if I can leave no trace as a self contained, self propelled, self powered nautical project.. others should be able to build in that sort of concept.

so, this is an #answer to a #problem i hadnt thought of- teflon is great and nothing sticks to it so its a great.. frictionless product but.. nothing sticks to it so, it wont get solidly epoxied in to #theboat .. answer: use the teflon for what it is... more in #alt text
so what we have here is a carbon- teflon sandwich.. inner and outer layers of carbon, with a core of teflon.. the inner carbon tube will be epoxied to the rudder (reinforced with carbon fiber fabric) and filled with epoxy.. the outer carbon tube will be installed in TheBoat fixed and rigid with poured epoxy building up a nice block.. the teflon tube will sit in between and do what it does best- be frictionless!! so, there'll be a solid 'thru- hull' and a solid rudder post.. and a frictionless material to be.. a wonderful rudder system that wont expose the cabin to water leakage due to cables that pass thru the hull!!! I'm soooo payched!!!

as a 'survivor' of abuse, Ocean Cyclist is a sort of proving ground for ability..-today, i took TheBoat's training wheels off.. her 'carriage' is gone.. just two vestiges remain and shall for awhile in order to keep her stable on the 'strongback' during construction. Check #alt txt for more insight

I am coming to the realization that This Project is affirmation of possibilities.. the possibilities of life that were stolen from me due to multifarious firms of abuse causing *sometimes* crushing disbelief in My Self.. so, while TheBoat (nicknamed Tooker) probably could have been pulled off her cradle awhile ago.. my fear was that my build wouldnt be *good enough* and, when removed from the sort-of supportive cradle, she'd collapse. That was also partly why, when i discovered the boat named 'Atlantelia' as a finished ocean row boat for sale.. i figured i could skip a bunch of steps and be on my way in her, safe and sound. Not so.. the design of Atlantelia is highly questionable.. so, make progress on 'Tooker' .. keep on, jeeping on. long story short.. pulling off the cradle was uplifting. To see my work at a new level, to see her without splints and supports.. and to see her ready for the next phase is absolutely and incredibly exciting. to make a long story, longer.. the cradle was a two- by- four superstructure that was built in two halves.. or, built around TheBoat being halved up.. so, there was the Bow section and Stern section.. these sat on two by four 'rails' that had wooden channels set up so it could only move in one direction.. longer. Once TheBoat was cut in half, i pulled her to 22' in length and added plywood to keep her rigid. Now, the rails and cradle are completely gone.. and their wood (two by fours, too big for my uses) will go to my current #yyc host and old friend and visionary confidant.

been #handcrafting like a #demon the past while.. but every now and then i’d take a bit of a breather to work on the #creative #zone.. here, we see the musical gear nearly dialled.. cant see stacks of 11x14 prints ready for #tinting or the #rabble of soapstone but.. looking forward to creating soon

looking forward to new working tools.. just ordered a home welder so that i can finally take my sculpting from the nonexistent status it is sitting at, now, hovering at nearly zero works in years to where i wanted to go starting about 25yrs ago… and do I have a backlog of sketches!!!!

okie dokie.. got my prospectus done.. its dialled and sharp! sometimes i feel as though i take too long on things like this but.. after a 6mo hiatis (realistically.. possibly longer) .. i’m redoubling my circumnavigational interests with the hoped for nautical launch to take place in spring of 2026
open ocean eacing row boat.. not my photo but this might become my boat.. atlantelia.. 8m long and low profile.. only nominal refit required to get her pedal powered and all sealed up for my purposes (sides dont need to be open for rowing oars.. and the top pf the cabin should be closed in as well).. and she comes with necessary equipment getting Ocean Cyclist moving forward by leaps not baby steps.

my old courier rig… pre- mod’s that turned it in to a 52spd downhill daemon.. a few tune up necessities still exist but plans are to start running this rig in 2025 to see how fast this hooman bean can actually go.
