Tidepools yesterday at a king low tide, near sunset in Capitola, CA.
First time spotting moonglow anemones and San Diego Dorid nudibranch in the wild! (Thanks to my offspring who spotted the nudibranch and the random marine biologist also out on the rocks for help with ID) #MarineLife #nudibranch

YES, Marissa Bode has talked about ableism & racism she has dealt with in her career. All of it is important. This was not one of those moments, & it seems like people would rather make up a moment of bigotry entirely than deal with the real discrimination she's faced.

How my morning started after last night’s rainstorm. Opened my classroom door and looked down. To the left, approximately 12 crickets and an alligator lizard. To the right: (#salamander relocated to suitable damp clump of bushes)

Our view looking down from our seats at the San Jose Barracuda opening game, LOL. Welcome back AHL hockey! 🏒

Shabbat shalom from me and from this handsome gentleman who was released by our 6th graders today. (He is chilling here on the ofrenda created by our Newcomers class…)
May you, too, have a place and time to rest.

Start of the meeting in my classroom yesterday, the monarch caterpillar was preparing to go into chrysalis form. I kept glancing over and caught it mid-change! Never seen that part before! I am as fascinated as my students.

Shana tovah to those on my feed celebrating tonight. May your year be one of justice & community support, connection & finding joy together.
This monarch butterfly my students and I raised hatched out this morning, and flew with strong wings when we released her - may your wings grow strong, too.

Welp, there it is. Heads up folks. I'm a disabled teacher at high risk for Covid-19 complications; this appeared online for our local Costco. CVS also has none. All I can do is keep using risk mitigation tools, wait, & hope one of many sick kids or colleagues I encounter doesn't give me Covid again.

Yesterday’s otter-watching in Santa Cruz! We counted many mother and pup pairs with the youngsters clearly practicing diving for their food (and a couple of them also begging for rides LOL)… Apparently the crabs were particularly plentiful this week in the kelp bed! #MarineLife #SeaOtters

Special delivery from GoldenHornSupplies on Etsy! Replica ancient Greek coins for my classroom…this will add so much to those lessons later this year. 🥰🔎 All the way from Turkey but really fast delivery.

Bait-ball of anchovies for dinner on 7/30/25 in near the harbor in Santa Cruz! Pelicans, terns, cormorants, gulls. To the left, you can briefly see one of the harbor seals catching supper. Not pictured in this shot - sea lions and the mackerel also in on the hunt! #MarineLife

Mammals: 3 harbor seals, one sea lion (with the loud conversations of many more in the distance), four sea otters catching/eating lunch

Birds: pelicans, oystercatchers, gulls (one on a nest), cormorants (& a baby in a nest on a cliff!), guillemots, pigeons, house sparrows

In the continuing saga of finding disability history at antique fairs/yard sales…a Braille typing machine! I had no idea Smith & Corona Typewriters made those! Anyone have an estimate on when it was made?

A glimmer: Explored a beach at low tide. Found some very cool rocks, fossils, & creatures. Then, as we were leaving, a person we'd met earlier ran up to me. "Here - I have several pieces of fossilized whale bone already. Want this one?" 🥰Yes, I know it's a Sharks shirt, not a whale shirt, but...🤷🏼‍♀️

This got my attention this morning at the antique fair. Any medical historians know when it might have been made or used? #DisabilityHistory

When you suddenly get a chance to meet @stevedangle20.bsky.social , @jesseblake.bsky.social, and @adamwylde.bsky.social and realize you let someone borrow your copy of Steve’s first book, you get creative! 🤷🏼‍♀️🥰🏒

A looooong day. But it started with an early morning rainbow and ended with a doc listening to and not gaslighting my offspring, so…not entirely awful.

Rough week, so please accept this video clip from my walk at the sea last week - I keep giggling at the birds who just act like “eh, we’re fine” and don’t move…

For a timeline cleanse - I had a box of damaged costume jewelry a great aunt left me years ago. Brought it to work. My 7th graders created “medieval products” for a trade routes project. One group read about fancy spice containers & made this for their samples. Hope Aunt L is smiling somewhere. 🥰

We have never sat in the lower bowl at SAP before!!! OMG. And it was fun being at ice level for warmups watching Bunts tossing pucks to kids. 🥰🏒
