Focusing on the big issues - they're all about environmental damage that humans are inflicting on this planet. Is there anything else that's more important? Plus a glimpse of reality.

It's amazing how many people think renewable energy harvesting infrastructure is clean. It's as though they think that all our environmental problems will disappear if the transition can be completed.

Climate contrarians often go on about data adjustments. Overall, they understate the warming. www.theclimatebrink.com/p/the-raw-te...
The raw temperature deal
Temperature records are adjusted for changes in measurement techniques over time, but the net effect on global temperatures is small

Most of the environmental damage we see was done before climate change really started to kick in. Consequently, moving to renewables, even if they could eventually be built without fossil fuels, will not stop the environmental damage caused by civilisation and economic growth.

We don't yet know whether it will be possible to build infrastructure to harness renewable energy, and distribute it, without FFs. If it isn't, then if they result in a significant reduction in FF use the FF industry will contract/collapse and be unable to supply the FFs needed in future.

The AGW deniers claim it's not true. Those who follow the science don't want it to be true. There seems to be some common ground there.

Sustainable modernity is impossible. Halting growth in economies crashes them (they require growth to pay interest on debt). Only with no more resource extraction and 100% recycling can a society hope to be sustainable. The latter is impossible making the former impossible.

Latest post by @davidslack.bsky.social includes the hope for "Sustainable industry powered by the abundant energy ..." I hope this is shorthand for "less damaging industry..." because so many seem to understand our predicament but fail to understand sustainability. subslack.substack.com

A new daily surface temperature record in the ERA5 data set, for December 30th, beating last year's record. And we're not even in an El Niño now.

I follow quite a few people who try to hope we will somehow repair some of the damage we've done to all of the critical systems on this planet (planetary boundaries). I've yet to read of any of them saying that the US election result is good for any of them. Rather, the reverse.
