The patient was in kidney failure and her immune system would reject a human organ. Scientists hope genetically modified pig organs prove safe and will alleviate the organ shortage and save lives.

What's going on with gene nomenclature between human and pre-clinical models (e.g., mice) why do we have to change gene nomenclature but we don't do it with proteins/enzymes? It seems like if you're going to use a different way of writing/communicating genes - you'd use that same rule for proteins.
