Maybe still nonsense, but GDP is a rate, not an absolute quantity. Saying that a country with a $1.1 trillion GDP couldn't invest $1 trillion is like saying someone making $110k/year couldn't buy a $100k house.

There was actually a study finding that people preferred spoiled versions of short stories over the originals!

The fact that 2^3 ≠ 3^2 is clearly proof that exponentiation does not have the mandate of heaven, and any engineering/physics that requires it should be made illegal /s

Finally, "Tylenol is safe"* can join "gender affirming care is effective" in the set of things we already know but have to keep investing scarce resources into proving yet again because it's detractors don't actually care about the science.

Yeah, I've been encouraged to use them for work (coding) and it'll occasionally save me a minute by providing some 90% correct boilerplate but for most things I've tried using it for, by the time I've coerced it into giving me a usable answer I could have already done it on my own some other way.

The trick is to just pick your preferred word meanings, pretend those are universally understood, and claim anyone not using your definitions is just obtuse and disingenuous./s

Yup. I've also never gotten the blind trust in handing a 24/7 feed of your home (possibly including it's interior!) over to <random tech company>. I get that it's a bit more convenient/cheap than owning/operating the storage/remote viewing stuff yourself, but like…

Just imagine trying to work in an open plan office where everyone is using their computer only with voice commands.

I feel like "this would look bad if leaked/subpoenaed" is just one of those things you should never write down. I suppose that the people smart enough to do that tend to also be smart enough to just not write down the original bad stuff too though.

Yep. Another way to think about it is that it always makes everything up; it's just been trained thoroughly enough to produce things that look like they were written like a human that a lot of what it makes up happens to be true, especially for things that occur a lot in the training data

Would they be allowed to sleep on their boats? Or would they need to disembark and set up camp like the rest of the military every night?

This piece outlines one theory that gives a plausible explanation. tl;dr: an increasing number of people perceive media requiring more than surface level engagement as hostile, as a result of near-exclusively consuming media that caters to short attention spans

Gonna guess they don't consider all the right wing posting about how white people need to have more kids to be "encourag[ing] sexual activities" though

Feels like one of those things where you can tell they probably don't actually fully believe what they're saying cause their related views/actions aren't nearly extreme enough. Like, IDK but if I genuinely thought tech companies had invented a new kind of sentient person and immediately started 1/

I absolutely needed to be challenged (and wasn't) in kindergarten. My parents wound up putting me in private school till the public gifted program started so that I wouldn't be bored out of my mind (and misbehaving because of it)

I get where you're coming from but I absolutely would have benefitted from a gifted program in kindergarten. I was super bored in kindergarten and my parents put me in private school for 1st and 2nd grade (till the gifted program started) cause I would have been miserable (and misbehaving) otherwise

My current hormone management doctor had me sign an informed consent form when I switched to him, and it was wild how many plain wrong things were on there; he was just kinda like "meh, I'm the doctor" when I pointed this out.
