If it weren’t for the World Central Kitchen post, this would’ve been an all-time back-to-back timeline synchronicity

Hello snow people. What can we learn about avalanches from this stratified slab of snow clinging to the sloped wall between my balcony and my neighbor's?

It was a monochromatic morning over Lincoln Park as a fresh blanket of snow created a still, snowglobe-like scene.

At 17.1” of snow so far, Chicago has nearly exceeded the 17.6” that fell during the entire 2024-2025 season! Bonkers. If you like winter, we’re off to a good one.

Lincoln Park woke up to a fresh blanket of snow covering south pond. #Chicago in winter is gorgeous as can be.

On the other side, light reflecting off the windows and passing back through the fog creates striated sunbeams

Perhaps a poor business decision by me, but a win for you!

My #CyberMonday deal is that my 2026 desktop calendars are the same price I charged when I first started selling them in 2014 - $30.

Funny thing happened while taking my sledding shot. I wasn't using my auto-focus lock button, so the focus changed during one exposure and it appears to have captured a single flake in focus while the rest of the scene was out of focus. (exposure turned down to show detail)

Yesterday was the snowiest November day in #Chicago history. 8.4” fell at O’Hare Airport (Chicago's official measurement site) breaking the previous record of 8” set in 1951. Here are a few more photos.

I don't have any #shopsmall deals on my 2026 calendars, BUT, my price has stayed the same in the 11 years I've been making them, so, it's sort of like a baked-in discount.

The last vestiges of fall are still visible in the southwest exurbs. Shot these from a helicopter in between client projects yesterday.

Ventured out to hunt the northern lights last night. The show wasn't as dramatic as the night before, but it's always a treat to catch even a sliver of the aurora.

For curiosity's sake, where did you come across that photo? I shot it.

Remnants of Sunday-into-Monday's lake effect snow event are still visible on satellite. Don't miss the little swath near the Illinois/Wisconsin border! #ILwx

Got this one with my Nikon about an hour later. I could see the reds (clear, but finely) with my naked eye.

This is the radar from ~11pm last night to 4:00am. Right around 1am you can see how concentrated and narrow that band across NWI/easter Illinois becomes, while the precipitation above Chicago is a bit spotty. If the wind was more easterly, we'd have had more.
