I'd raise another issue: most of the positive DNA samples studied are being regarded as coming from individuals who died of the plague. This is a relationship that needs to be proven, as part of the infected population survives. Also the archaeology of the cemeteries does not reveal a clear urgency.

The argumentation by Hines seems reasonable. Locating pre-541 samples of Yersinia Pestis in Britain causes a major disrupt in our understanding of the spread of the Justinianic Plague.
