Mid-century British fiction is my favorite reading zone, but I was never exposed much to Dorothy Whipple until recently. Last year I read High Wages, a story about a shopgirl's life around WW1. It's a bit of a melodrama, but DW gives the plots several unexpected twists. One of my favorites of 2024.

Watching Bogie films is our holiday tradition, and it's always hard to pass up The Return of Dr. X. I practically consider it a holiday film now.
