We’re pleased to report that the Lake George wildfire is now being held. That means the fire is not likely to move as long as conditions don’t change. It not yet under control, it could still grow beyond the estimated 288 hectares. All evacuees can return home tomorrow.

The Lake George wildfire is still out of control. Crews were once again successful in preventing growth yesterday, despite challenging conditions. Current estimate remains 288 hectares. No structures lost. Anticipated rain and cooler temperatures will help.

1. Aylesford Rd from (and including) Fox Mountain Campground to Civic 3847 Aylesford Rd.
2. All civics on Spruce Dr, Birch Lane and Blue Lane.
3. All civics between 5 North River Rd to 1493 North River Rd.

Starting today, October 1, Nova Scotia’s minimum wage increases to $16.50 per hour from $15.70. This is the second increase this year, bringing the total increase for 2025 to $1.30.

The Lake George wildfire is still out of control and estimated at 150 hectares.

There are no reports of structure damage. The Department of Emergency Management is working on structure protection with the local fire department. Further evacuations are likely, although residents should be prepared.

A helicopter is flying over the scene this morning to get a better gauge on the size. Last night’s rough estimate was 300 hectares.

Mandatory evacuation area expanded to include the north end of Aylesford Lake, from Old Mill Lane, southwest to Simpson Cove Lane.

A 24/7 shelter with overnight accommodations has been set up for evacuees of the Lake George wildfire. Evacuees can go to Louis Millett Community Complex at 9489 Commercial Street, New Minas. All evacuees are asked to register at the emergency reception area inside the shelter.

An evacuation order has been issued between Kingswood Camp and Fox Mountain campground, Kings County, due to the Lake George wildfire. Avoid the area if not affected.

With dry, windy conditions, the wildfire at Lake George has reverted back to out of control. Current size estimate is 80 hectares. @NSEmergency is supporting evacuation of nearby camps and homes.

The Long Lake wildfire is now under control. It's a key milestone in any wildfire. Under control means the fire is responding well to suppression efforts. It is not expected to grow, but it is still not extinguished. Having reached this milestone, this is our last regular update.
