Huge congratulations to everyone at The Hop on the reopening of their big stage with tonight’s concert featuring Renée Elise Goldsberry! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s Yo-Yo Ma / We Are Water performance. We missed you Hop!

The editors gave us a lot to unpack in this header, but you have to applaud the effort.

Well, clearly. Thus the problem.

From a summary of the latter, where apparently steampunk LLMs are born of a wealthy white collar worker bored with their job. Which doesn’t sound at all familiar.

This is why I shouldn’t be allowed in used book stores.

(These have the four parts of Vinge’s Marooned in Real Time plus a bonus of Clarke’s The Steam-Powered Word Processor)

This genuinely makes me sad. Growing up in the sticks with no money to my name, AS&S has all kinds of stuff I could be creative with - everything from tesla coil parts to nixie tubes to rubber chickens. Uncurated streams of trash from alibaba aren't the same.

Experimenting with uBlock Origin rules to un-social social media today:

www.reddit.com##[data-post-click-location="comments-button"]
www.reddit.com##[slot="title"]{pointer-events: none;}
www.reddit.com##[slot="full-post-link"]

This removes the link to comments on reddit.

It's 2025.
It's 2021.
It's 2017.

A slight detour meant I was overdressed, but always good to see the ocean again regardless.

Folks in the always friendly and socially forward-thinking Warhammer community, reacting to real Nazis rather than their usual fictional ones.

We may be waiting a bit for the Thunder folks to follow them, alas.

Or, perhaps I just didn't get the joke. Weird that Llama and our next prez use the same excuse when called on their nonsensical responses.

I, uh, think I broke Llama.

You see, if you make an AI simulation of the impact of AI on climate, it all cancels out and the energy is free. It's like those perpetual motion generators where you strap a slice of buttered toast to the back of a cat.

Last night was the opening for a pop-up show highlighting the destruction of Ukraine's cultural heritage during Russia's genocidal attack on the country. It was tough to listen as both US and Ukrainian students described all that's been lost. 1/3

I'm sorry, how do you name your group DeathTech without coming up with a great logo to match?

At least Bjørn gets the cool o with a stroke.

My worlds collide as Liz Losh visits Dartmouth to talk AI pedagogy and @jonippolito.bsky.social’s Learn With AI site makes a cameo!

I have to say I was pretty shocked by this ad when watching the game last night. I wish I were surprised as well, but...not so much, as this sort of wink and nod apology is pretty on brand for this sham of a campaign.

I kind of like how chatgpt has learned all the worst habits of manual file versioning. (These were a series of versions of a script I asked it to write and then tweak)

Oh, ok brain. I see how it is. It's going to be one of _those_ days.
