I love how principled you are and totally support you in whatever choice you make. Just to clarify, my “reluctance” was around AI in general in writing, not around whether I plan to do anything with it in Novella. I can tell you definitively that no, I will not be training AI on user data.

In the future when I add cloud sync functionality it will be fully encrypted so there is no way I could utilize it even if I wanted to. (But again, zero intention to ever use user data)

Absolutely not and I have no intentions of ever implementing that. Currently with the functionality as it stands today all data is stored only on your device, I don’t have any server storing your data so I couldn’t use it if I wanted to.

There are so many incredible tools out there, everyone should find what works for them and just enjoy creating! If someone out there besides me happens to like how Novella works then I’m thrilled! ❤️

While I definitely have plans for a mobile app, it’s still in very early ideation stages. So while I can’t promise when or how it will work, it’s absolutely on the roadmap!

On top of that, using its output directly is not your work, so passing it off as your own is problematic. With Novella I have no intent to integrate AI features at the moment and likely won't even consider it for a long time. Does that hurt its marketability? Probably. But I'm okay with that.

Great question! There is no official stance on it as of yet. I generally agree with the sentiment of Brandon Sanderson that I am reluctant about its use in creative spaces. Using its output directly is problematic at best, particularly since LLMs have been trained on stolen creative works.
