And both perspectives are extremely harmful in different ways. My point is, if we're going to advocate against oppression, advocate for ending ALL oppression. AND examine the ways in which we may perpetuate it ourselves

I bring this up because as someone who does come from a historically marginalized group, there's a very fine line to walk. There are those that want to rewrite our history to provide a rosy retrospective of pre-colonialism, and those that would use the oppression to justify further colonialism 1/2

They're very different, so I'd say no, but it is entertaining to see what they took out to make the musical/movie more appealing to audiences (which is A LOT)

2/2 I find it a bit ironic. Particularly when I do see my peers using terms or frameworks made by black activists without giving credit where credit is due. Dr. Kimberly Crenshaw's intersectional theory is one that comes to mind. More self reflecting on how we may also oppress others is needed imo
