"Forgive, don't demand accountability" is a perfect way to maintain the existing power structures and ensure that nothing changes.
This is unfortunately a common response to even very serious issues such as sexual abuse. Never expose them, never press charges, never demand accountability even from positions of leadership. It's horrifying.

Everyone should read @theradr.bsky.social book, "On Repentance and Repair." Then, we should hold people responsible for repenting and repairing the damage they've done
Reconciliation without reparation is one of supremacy's greatest sabotages of the act of repair. Whenever abuse is exposed, it offers free exoneration to the abuser at the expense of the abused, and calls it redemption. It's the traditional and popular response to abuse in our supremacist society.
Leaders of a Minnesota church community didn’t report a parishioner they knew had sexually abused girls for year.

They told his victims that once sins were “washed away in the blood of reconciliation,” they could never speak of them again.

Truly chilling, from @jlussenhop.bsky.social & Andy Mannix

Absolutely- 4 degrees, practiced medicine in the Tricare system, active duty and now VA care - it all has only made me feel more strongly that all Americans deserve this (to me that’s at least healthcare, education, basic income for cost of living).
I would like to say that, as someone who has lived my entire life, raised a family, and practice medicine completely within a system of Government paid/provided, free and/or at a truly low cost - all Americans deserve this, because healthcare is a human right.

I know I’m like a year behind, but as I’m about to cancel my $2.99 a month Hulu and Disney about to increase to 12.99, I’m finally watching Agatha All Along and I am fucking delighted 😭

NHANES runs mobile clinics that travel the country measuring height, weight, & blood pressure while collecting blood and urine samples. These samples are our only national source for tracking everything from blood sugar to hormones, heavy metals, and more.

The entire operation has been eliminated.
Everyone across biomedicine should be very loud about this so this team's RIF status gets reversed. Nhanes has been key for tracking obesity & diabetes rates, identifying high blood lead levels in kids in the 70s, tracking progress on cholesterol lowering, guiding nutrient fortification programs etc

I know it’s an ongoing, multi-dumpster fire out there, but this totally normal, not-at-all inflammatory email was sent out by the VA to veterans in the past week.

My heart kind of hurts for women & all targeted folks currently serving, how this might impact them. I only recently started talking with my VA Therapist about what chronically feeling like “tons of people think I don’t belong even though I know I do good work” does to one’s self-worth & confidence.

Thinking about how recent years seemed like, “ok yes it still sucks but some things have gotten better for women in the military, it’s just some toxic mil & vetbros holding things back, but they’re the minority.” But now toxic mil/vetbro culture is the out loud desired goal.

Was working on stuff and basically missed the whole Jimmy Kimmel news cycle. It reminds us. With the exception of the Times (which doesn't own a bunch of other vulnerable properties), msnbc and a few others, all the news/media outlets are owned by the white house now.

it is really important for news outlets to be clear (unlike the nyt here) that Kimmel was suspended not because of some grassroots backlash but because ABC caved to threats from the head of the FCC

If you’re rich and not a coward, this is what you’d refer to as a “market opportunity” to dominate a media ecosystem that’s about to be covered in grotesque government slop. To be a pop of color in a sea of beige will be easier than ever. People will flock to it. You gotta be a little brave, though.

A program in Flint, MI, gave $1,500 to any/all pregnant people and $500/month for the first year of their infant’s life.

Among the benefits, those babies experienced lower rates of prematurity and low birth weight, which resulted in fewer NICU admissions, saving the city of Flint $6.2 million/year.

Fascists do not believe in free speech as a universal principle. Free speech is a tool they'll happily use, but they don't think everyone should have it. They don't believe in universal moral principles at all. Rights and privileges are for the in-group, obligations are for everyone else.
When you support Free Speech but only for your self what you're for is your own untrammeled power.

I’m already exhausted by the “consider the full context” folks, as if comparing cars and guns isn’t disingenuous at best, and still doesn’t change that some of us believe the number of acceptable deaths from gun violence is zero. Not to mention there’s no good context for any of his bigoted remarks
Charlie Kirk's supporters are so desperate to portray him as a man of reason and dialogue that they're lashing out at anyone who supplies evidence of the insanely bigoted content that defined his content-farming operation.

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?
September 15, 2025 at 2:43 PM
If some people are suddenly very concerned with free speech (for bigots), then they’ll be fine with people speaking freely about true things the dead man actually said or pointing out he was a bigot, right? Right? 🙃

The conversation we’re not ready to have yet is that having empathy for a white supremacist is part of what upholds white supremacy.

And by that measure alone, it fails to be empathy at all.
