Librarian and parent with adult-onset jock syndrome. Here for all things Hudson Valley and Beacon.
The kids are at play practice, so I’m listening in on @pkryan.bsky.social’s town hall while squeezing in a workout. Workshopping a name for this activity: Democracy and Dumbells? Sweating to the Oligarchs? Deadlifting with Democrats? Civics is Swole? Seeking Progressive Gainz?

Sunday selfie on the bus! I hopped the loop to get some coffee at Trax and walked the length of Main Street to the farmer’s market. Now me and my pot pies are on the way back home again.

Just talked to a federal worker, he’s still employed, but the future is uncertain. Because of his work, dams don’t break and towns don’t get flooded.
Many federal jobs seem like they’re just Desmond pushing a button every 108 minutes. Collectively, these roles are vital for preventing catastrophe.

How lucky are we to have a competent comptroller in Dutchess County! www.dutchessny.gov/Departments/...

When the news is bad, nature can help. The falls at Madame Brett Park are an accessible hidden gem if you come down this way!

What I’m up to on Friday is keeping my wallet away all day. Hope you can join in!

Me, not eagerly anticipating the moment these ice-covered limbs and wires meet tonight’s high winds.
Good things I have done all that research on generators. Better if I had actually purchased one, though.

Library Freedom Project shared this link to the GoFundMe pages of over 800 Black families displaced by the California fires. I picked a few at random and donated what I could. I hope you can do the same.

In light of current events, one of the most moving things at dia:Beacon was the sign by the bathroom.

Greetings from atop smug mountain.

In excitement for season 2 of Severance, I went on a little location walk this morning. The dummy light and the Beacon building are from today, and the Main St shot was the only one I took during production in March 2021. Why didn’t I take more?

Such a small problem in a sea of crap, but I would truly love to see the bus stop signs updated with some timetables.
And if maybe one more vehicle would read the sign and stop idling, the planet could be a little less on fire. #BeaconCityBus

Not as on the nose as a cybertuck on fire, but my take of the state of things today.

It was a beautiful day down at the Hudson River. The kids threw more than their fair share of broken brick pieces on to the icy water. (The adults did, too…)

I picked this up on vacation in July so I could follow along with the 99% Invisible book club. My goal was to finish before the year’s end and now here we are!
I need a change of pace. Anyone have a recommendation for some nice lite fiction? Maybe a pamphlet?

I just spent one hour and 45 minutes on the phone with Mohela fixing a mistake they made with my student loans. (That also should have been forgiven by now!) The folks on the other end of the phone were lovely, but this system is deeply broken.

Spotted in the Newburgh Target: a monster truck with a “protect wild dolphins” Florida plate. My brother in Christ, the emissions you let out on the drive here just killed an entire pod.

George Washington’s head is in a new location where he faces the East. This way he can watch the sunrise and wonder if today is the day democracy will work.

Good morning, Beacon! Guess who is regretting the choice to keep the patio furniture out for “one more weekend.”
Schools are on a two hour delay, I will use that time to find the shovels.
