I do theatre - paid for marketing it, but also occasionally write for it. Worked for many years in Jewish arts and culture — now out of organizational Jewish life. Based in Maryland.
Performance review of the Greenland trip just dropped.

It’s not a War Plan if it’s not from the War Region of France. Otherwise it’s just a plan for war.

Meanwhile, the Kennedy Center website is crashing. Because everything these clowns touch turns to shit.

The Tr\/mp takeover of the KenCen is part of a larger campaign of “Elite Replacement” throughout the government and in their eyes, the culture. The KenCen was uniquely vulnerable— but arts institutions who matter to their communities will have a more important role to play ultimately.

I’ve worked in the DC arts scene for 30 years. If there’s a local arts story making headline news, it’s never for anything good. But this shit is insane.

Guess I’ll be using Apple Maps from now on.

Your NEA-funded org thinking of backing away from cultural diversity? Don’t. The law is on our side. The law will win.

My reaction to Tr\/mp coming after the KenCen or Arts & Culture generally? He’ll lose. It’s a bad bet.

Trump’s proposal might taste like catnip to the Israeli right, but make no mistake — just the words attempting to legitimize Palestinian expulsion put Jewish and Palestinian lives at risk around the world (not that they care about the latter).

Real question: How is the mass firing of career civil servants not a blatant example of illegal retaliation?

In the early 90s, I studied abroad in London, and one day we took a trip to York. We saw the things one sees there — the Minster, City Walls, the Viking Museum, etc. We had free time for lunch, so I grabbed a sandwich and sat down by an old medieval castle and was confronted by this plaque. (1/5)

Today is the non-profit organizational equivalent of loitering by the entrance to the subway asking strangers for a dollar to help you get home.

Did not have “very online faction supports Ivy-educated, child of millionaires for killing CEO from working class background for representing billion dollar industry” on my bingo card. But when I read it back to myself, it kind of fits.

This is a profound misunderstanding of what anti-Semitism is, which shapeshifts over time to project that which a society deems most unforgivable (rejection of the Christ, child sacrifice, trans-national affiliation, capitalism, communism, colonialism, nationalism, racism) onto the Jew.
Antisemitism simply is not a significant threat in our society. It used to be, but it isn’t anymore, because our society has changed. There was a time fairly recently when I would’ve been discriminated against for being divorced from the father of my children. This never happens to me,

Now that we’re past Thanksgiving, this is my reminder to all my non-Jewish friends that Chanukah ≠ Jewish Christmas. And that’s okay. Come back and catch us at Purim.

The future was alterable. Black Friday began on Monday. Black Friday had always begun on Monday. There was never a time when Black Friday ever referred solely to the sixth day of the week and the first after Thanksgiving.

“Take The ‘A’ Train” is piece of music so perfect that it’s almost like Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington engineered it in a lab according to the secret axioms of rhythm and genius.

We’ve gone from expecting our government officials to avoid the “appearance of impropriety” to “just because there was a mountain of evidence pointing towards sex trafficking and statutory r*p*, doesn’t mean he should be disqualified.”

Say what you want about Disney musicals, but watching a student matinee of “Frozen” is just an explosion of joy.

If he won, four of the nation’s 50 governors would be Jewish guys named Josh.
