This tiny hummingbird—the Violet-headed Hummingbird—weighs about as much as a paperclip.
The more time you spend with #hummingbirds, the more you notice how uniquely each one wears light. This species is known for a violet, almost electric purple head when seen straight on, but I love the sideview.

This late summer, I shot 37,000 photos of water droplets from garden sprinklers. I may not have produced that much during this time, but it was one of the most instructive times for me, and every once in a while, an image that depicted order in the universe would appear, and I was happy with that.

These paper-thin sandstone layers in South Coyote Buttes formed 190 million years ago from ancient dunes turned to rock. Each sheet marks a shift in wind or moisture. Even careful visitors can cause damage, so limiting access helps preserve these fragile formations.

The heat in Birgu settles into its alleys in the evening, when the local cats search for cool surfaces to rest on. I found this alley cat stretched across the roof of a car, unbothered by the world, in one of the old streets of Malta’s historic Birgu.
