Daisy loves playing ball in the woods. Sometimes I throw it ahead on the trail sometimes back. Sometimes it bounces out into the brush. That's OK she loves searching for the elusive ball. #collie #dogsofbluesky #bordercollie #dogs #forest #fall

I took a pic of the remains of a big petrified tree in the river bed today. Also another big chunk of petrified wood somewhat recently exposed. Tuff is very soft so new stuff appears as the water recedes every year. Border collie Daisy for scale.
15 month old white and black border collie Daisy sits inside a ring of petrified wood along side a river. the ring is 6 to 8 feet in diameter. ?I've highlighted where the underwater part of the ring is hard to see. Also outlined another big piece very nearby. The leaves on the trees, shrubs and grass across the river are just beginning to turn to fall colors. It was beautiful September afternoon for a walk and a very brisk swim.

Daisy has changed the rules of the stick game at the river. She doesn't bring me the stick to throw. She sets it in the water upstream and lets the current bring it to me.

Camped on the Deschutes this week. Came home Friday avoiding the Memorial Day crowds.
Two tents in evening twilight alongside the Deschutes river. Tall green grass almost hides the tents. There's a big pine tree and a hedge of brush between the tents and the river. The brush is a good windbreak. Two rafts are tided up to the left of the of the tents. A bit of the river glistens thru gaps in the brush. Across the river gentle hills rise. Mostly covered in grass with sagebrush and juniper scattered about.

Four baby Steller's Jays in a nest of twigs between the floor joists of the second story of our back porch. They have black fuzzy down on their heads gradually transitioning to blue feathers around their middles. Beaks are pointier than last week.

My best pic so far of the Steller's Jay nesting between the second floor joists of our back porch. I don't exactly when she started incubating. Kinda expect hatchlings any day now. The porch is also Daisy's kennel so I need to staple up a barrier so fledgling land outside #stellersjay #birds

A Steller’s Jay appears to be incubating some eggs on our back porch. The porch is 2 stories the nest is on the beam supporting the upper deck. I don't want to disturb her so I haven't looked in her nest #stellersjay #birds
A bird nest is on a 4x8 beam between 2x8 joists. The birds tail is in clear view. I can sorta see a little of her back and head.

Daisy likes her crate.

Northern Pygmy-Owl has caught a fat vole. Silver Falls State Park, Trail of Ten Falls. Often hunts in daylight. #birds #wildlife #silverfalls
A Northern Pygmy-Owl it perched on mossy limbs overhanging Silver Creek. It's holding a fat vole that nearly as big as the owl. Owl's body is brown with light color speckles. Tail is dark brown with while stripes.
