I had a phenomenally encouraging time at the Hands Off protest in Augusta, Maine today. Huge turnout! This was my sign. Let's keep this up, America!

Putting the finishing touches on 'Prey.' I *never* use glue on a fiber art piece except, well, when it's the best way to affix some sea glass. 🙃

Not a ton of progress on this one today because I had other stuff I had to get done, but I did go through my stash to see what else might go into it.

I found this TapRoot Fibre Lab yarn in Nova Scotia last week and knew immediately it was right for my fierce woman in "Don't Play Small." Fiery wool in the background is "Dragon's Breath" dyed by Shane (the Dye Guy) at Encompassing Designs Rug Hooking Studio in Mahone Bay, NS. Buy Canadian! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

"Prey" is finished with the exception of the eye embellishment on the fish.

Today's project is putting together kits for an upcoming beginner workshop. I don't often teach with kits anymore, favoring student deisgned and color planned pieces, but for specific venues and circumstances it makes sense. There's no single way to structure a beginner experience.

Working on a Substack post about my weekend in Quebec. I have family on both sides of what used to be a friendly border. The destruction of this international friendship by fascist pigs in America is obscene. No matter where this ends up, I will side with Canada.

Quebec aquarium is sweeeeeeet.

Just dropping some tourist dollars in beautiful, sovereign nation, never, ever, ever to be the 51st state, Canada. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

For the locals, open studio/potluck tomorrow. We have mostly rug hookers attending but we'd be delighted to welcome artists and makers in any medium.

Dyeing some sparkle wool today for 'Prey' because I ran out. This was trial and error because I had no recipe for this color, but I think it's going to be pretty close.

Susan Collins office will hang up on you if you say the MAGA GOP are acting like Nazis. They will lecture you on where impeachment starts, the House (we know), if you call to ask that Collins support Rep. Raskin saying yesterday that if he could find two Republicans he'd begin impeachment.

Def don't be a Karen with me while my country is in the midst of a fascist coup. I'm just not likely to feel your indignation is a priority.

A bit windy at the Paris studio today! The wind tore two winter panels right off the porch and then blew the small studio doors open. 🙄

This fascist regime can't stop us from having Black History Month. Support Black owned businesses, artists, makers, and writers, Black politicians and activists, disseminate Black history, and fight racist messaging, starting in your own circle. Grandma may need to be confronted.

Anyone else remember when Pete Buttigieg was running for president, gaining momentum, and the DNC basically had him step aside? That was a mistake, just like what they did to Bernie Sanders four years prior.

Custom topo map I hooked for a commission client some years ago. It was a super fun project.

A couple of block mounted smalls which I have, for some reason, still not put online for sale. Adding that to the to-do list, I suppose.

Show me your studio pics. This is my Rockland, Maine space, just about a block from Penobscot Bay. 🌊

Shit's on fire, yo. And she's not playing small about it. The piece is called "Don't Play Small." 17 x 31 inches. It'll be mostly hand dyed wool strip and wool yarn on linen foundation. More info in the studio update video I posted earlier.

So, a colleague of mine and I organize a 4 day rug hooking cruise aboard a 1927 schooner in Maine and it's pretty glorious. We still have spaces for 2025! FMI www.207creatives.com/events

Here's a little video I did for those *other* platforms I'm no longer on about the making of 'Bring It Up Alive.' I don't think the sound comes over to Bluesky? Still learning this platform but grateful for it.
