地元の寺院ではお遍路を模した道ありに、そこに阿弥陀如来の仏像がある。その名前は古代インド語のアミターバから由来し、その意味は「無限の光明」である。スターウオーズでアナキン・スカイウォーカーの妻、そしてルークとレイアの母であったパドメ・アミダラの名前はこの阿弥陀如来から由来されていると言われる。「パドメ」は観音菩薩に祈りを捧げる際に使う、サンスクリッド語の真言「オン・マニ・パドメ・フーン」と、「アミダラ」は阿弥陀如来の真言である「オン・アミダラ・フーン」から取ったようだ。アミダラの死の後にも、その存在が輝き続けたことを考えると、なかなか相応しい名前であったと思う。
