Former instructor (UCLA/UCB/CU), Ph.D., on youtube since 2016. Imperfectly trying to teach Old Norse things and linguistics. Second Edition of my translation of the Poetic Edda: Stories of the Norse Gods and Heroes now out.
Today on youtube I’m answering a viewer question about the categorization of color in Old Norse. Full, longer video with links in the comments to my published peer-reviewed work on this subject: youtu.be/XuAOdF91YEg

Because it’s come up now & then I put a video on Youtube (full-length: youtu.be/rMW97Wl-Uh8 ) about how there’s really no evidence of a “commandment” that historical Norse pagan men needed to grow a beard, & how little we know at all about that religion’s *practice* (as opposed to its *stories*)

With a lot of people seeing the aurora even pretty far south, it’s remarkable to recall that it is *never* mentioned in Norse mythology. (As discussed here, some modern people try to make Bifrǫst the aurora, but it’s explicitly labeled as the regnbogi—“rainbow.”) Full video: youtu.be/_QLkE3mnkQk

On this “Fenrir” tattoo in the discourse today (and similar “Norse” tattoos). Cross-posting from Youtube because a lot of people are discussing it here; not sure if the dimensions look right here but it’s on Youtube at m.youtube.com/shorts/UvNfu...

Well today was going to be the release of the Second Edition of my translation of the original source of the Norse myths but Amazon inexplicably pushed back the ship date a few months. Some people got it from the publisher directly, but now their website is down. I’m not sure what’s going on.
