Dice-wrangler, bureaucrat-whisperer, wearer of hats and bearer of walking sticks. He/him.

Adult human, well past the age of majority in my jurisdiction.
These are delicious, and indeed spicy. A delightful burn.

From a short-lived YouTube series that is gone now, me as "the hobgoblin".

In "Ominous Out of Context" I present the following two text messages I received.

A passage which stopped me cold for thought.

Without downloading anything, where are you mentally right now?

This motherfucker wants to be the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral.

A little over twelve years ago, this bundle of mischief and joy wrapped in soft silky fur came into our lives.

Today, he left us, with his dignity still intact, for age had bitten off too many chunks of his health.

Goodbye, Mr. Pickles. We were truly blessed to have you in our lives.

No, he's offering it as his own sentiment. The rest of the quote makes it quite clear. "I don't wanna think that way" -- but he DOES. He's arguing, pretty clearly, that the existence of affirmative action means that he automatically questions the qualifications of anyone non-white he sees.

1810 ends in a much different fashion. The French have cemented their alliance with Russia, forced Austria to neutrality, and seized Berlin, all at the slight cost of provoking a holy war in the Near East.

1809 closes much differently than historically. Austria has defended from its counterattack; Prussia has joined the Coalition (with the bribe of Poland), the British have captured Holland, and the Ottomans are advancing across Ukraine.

Another #wargame playtesting weekend. "Napoleonic World War", coming to a Strategy & Tactics magazine in the future. We're playing the War of the Fifth Coalition (1809) scenario. I'll be leading the Austrians and their allies (including Great Britain); @joea64.bsky.social is wearing Napoleon's hat.

Our copy of One Billion Users came in. First game went to @illmeaningfaery.bsky.social, who won by being less toxic than my platform was.

A lot of fun was had! I look forward to giving it a try with 3 and 4 players in the future.

General Winchester leads American forces to glory, seizing Upper Canada. Only the Royal Navy and the militia in Lower Canada stand against a stunning American victory.

Weird things that you notice and suddenly can't stop thinking about:

On my hand, my forefinger and pinky are each almost exactly the length to the last knuckle on the center fingers, which a quick web search suggests are called the distal interphalangeal joints.

The battles off the Cape Verde islands begin, with French and German air attacks against the American fleet.

The Stukas prove their worth, landing bombs on USS Arkansas and USS Texas, sufficient to send them back towards port as mission-kills. Even the French warplanes manage to hit USN DDs.

Meanwhile, a demand by Hitler for Italian support garners only a force of seaplanes.

The Luftwaffe deploys Stukas to Dakar to threaten the approaching American fleet and support a possible attack into the Cape Verde islands.

Admiral Laborde sorties the Vichy fleet from Dakar, but the intervention of American fleet units gives him pause.

The new Zeus art isn't bad. It's been a long favorite of mine too; that and the Commando lured me to the Lyrans when I got started.

If at any point I should fail to be aware of rabbits, this elderly gentleman is ready to remind me. Especially if there is a banana involved.

And that's just what Steam records...
