More strikes. I've started keeping track of strikes, as I feel they're under-reported. There are many more of them happening than I had originally realized.

If you've been shopping at your local Starbucks because the strike hadn't reached it yet, SWU is asking everyone to stop shopping there now.

Nope. Just nope. And I'll be very surprised to hear anyone doing the work wants to use AI, I'm assuming that this is a top down decision.

If 2023 was the year AI slop was embraced by spammers and social media influencers, and 2024 was the year the slop era began in earnest, 2025 was when slop became embedded in our cultural institutions and social spheres.

How many times do we have to prove that giving money to poor people improves their lives
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

A fascinating piece on how journalism is evolving, and I love this gem of advice to people looking for a job they don't hate, which applies beautifully to publishing, and to likely most arts and nonprofit work:

"Get comfortable making a lot less money," never goes over particularly well."

Because the majority of American's can't afford to live? While there are always exceptions, I refuse to believe that most people are too stupid to figure out the basics. Corporate profits and billionaires like we have now only happen because they're squeezing it out of people.
Poll: Most Americans back Mamdani’s affordability plan, with nearly 7 in 10 supporting higher taxes on corporations and the wealthiest 1 percent.
