Definitely! I think I didn't really like the concept that falling in love seemed to change him fundamentally as a person/character. But it's been probably 10 years or more since I read it - maybe I'd interpret it differently now.

The Anasati definitely felt like a less intimidating villain-family, for sure, and I remember feeling like Arakasi changed for the worse as well. And you're right about the journey! For a trilogy focused on 'the Empire', Mara spent what felt like a long time outside of it 😅

I'll have to give it another try on the next re-read!

Oh my gosh the Empire trilogy! I re-read the first two of those every couple of years ❤️ (I don't know what it is about Mistress that I don't like but something about it rubs me the wrong way)
