Got South of Midnight yesterday and I haven’t been this excited about a game in years! Art direction, soundtrack, and platforming are all on point! 🔥🔥🔥 Still getting used to combat but that’s minor. It’s so black, southern, and just awesome! Also the stop motion intro was a nice surprise!!!

Now that’s over, we finally go back to free Ala Mihgo, which is a jarring switch but the game quickly gets you refocused. I think this section was paced pretty well, from relearning and reengaging in the resistance to using the skills you learned in Doma to finish the job.

And ngl, Doma Castle is probably my favorite dungeon in the game so far! Some people say the music doesn’t match the tone of the dungeon, but I think it fits perfectly! The Domans finally have a real shot at liberating their nation and we need to get their energy pumping!

Even though it came from left field, the Doma-Kugane section is essential to the story: The player sees how horrible the Garlean occupation is and what happens if Eorzea falls to them, Lyse learns how to be a leader of a resistance by watching Hien, and we get to meet some cool characters.

-showing us how serious the threat is. Instead of helping the resistance recover, we are sent to Doma, another nation under Garlean occupation, to find help. We technically do find help, but not after LIBERATING THE WHOLE NATION, which was fun but came out of nowhere, and we still have to free AM.

2. Story - the main complaint I’ve seen is that the pacing is off, and I don’t necessarily disagree. The main goal is to free Ala Migho from Garlean occupation, which has been hinted at since ARR. We start out by helping and getting to know the resistance and atmosphere until Zenos attacks-
