Yep, a tariff is in essence a consumption tax by another name. If it replaces income tax, then it’s good for high income earners but not so good for the average wage earner. (Not that the MAGA crowd will understand, or want to understand, that).

If not stopped, when Trump-ism is finally finished with the USA, that “fourth world country” status may be apt to apply to it, or at least to aspects of it.

As others have noted already, in regard to ICE cruelty is not by accident or incompetence but by intentionally design. (However, eventually karma will come around).

Anyone who in their desire to appease Trump, does the Trump administration’s bidding will be used as a scapegoat as soon as anything goes wrong. Unless they are very stupid they must realise this, examples aplenty.

A security guarantee from the USA isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. At any moment a fool like Trump can refuse to make good on the guarantee and the USA isn’t even nearly as militarily powerful as it tries to tell the rest of the world it is. Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc.

“Are we a nation of laws or not?” - Is the USA nation of laws? Yes, but if a person actually has to adhere to those laws is fully dependent upon who that person is. Trump has shown that more than once.

The current issue isn’t so much that the President of the USA is above the law or not, but that the President of the USA is allowed to ignore the law with the active cooperation of those who suppose to represent the best interests of the population.

Regretfully, too many poor/average people believe that they're going to be the next millionaire/billionaire. Hence, the worshipping attitude prevails. And the MAGA class is a foremost example of that delusional attitude.

Seems like he based that con on the common “rewards” con run by large retailers and similar. Make people pay extra and then give some of that money back as a “reward” so they believe they get something for free. In this case, MAGA fools will totally fall for it of course.
