It is hard to come up with a better analogy for whiteness than preferring the AI simulacra of your supposed authentic art form to whatever a Black woman from your art form’s cultural geography might make.
As long as it's not Beyonce country music fans are fine with this development
I feel some kind of way about seeing this right after a post about it being the anniversary of Patti Smith's Horses. Obviously not the same genre, but why would anyone choose to listen to computer garbage when amazing human art exists.
Yes. Except my heart wants teetering stacks of books everywhere and no cleaning obligations ever.

Been in touch with a medical provider in Gaza who says “this ceasefire is even less of a ceasefire than the last ceasefire” — nothing’s getting in, no one’s getting out, people are still being killed and badly injured every day
“Israeli soldiers have described a free-for-all in Gaza and a breakdown in norms and legal constraints, with civilians killed at the whim of individual officers.”

The stories will get worse over time as censorship erodes. But we knew and didn’t stop it.

Same in the DC suburbs, groups that have been active on local and state issues since 2015 and 2020 are pivoting. It's actually reviving some groups that for a long time were just a few people advocating for bike lanes or affordable housing etc.

I do think this is a point of radicalization because a lot of angry, angry normal people were ready to dig in and suffer a lot in order to make fascists suffer a little, and their resolution was sold out and made into a mockery

also, there are plenty of text to speech tools that just record and don't analyze and they've existed for nearly my entire life. we've got to stop allowing people to conflate direct, non-generative tools with genAI when they have a financial incentive to do so

we should not be letting any company get away with blaming AI for their failures. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. people are like "it's just a tool" okay so is a forklift and we still hold somebody responsible when it goes wrong and hurts someone. this is YOUR AI!

White poppies are worn every year by thousands of people across the UK and beyond. First produced in 1933 after the First World War, by members of the Co-operative Women's Guild. Women who had lost family and friends and wanted to hold on to the key message of Remembrance Day, 'never again’.

So the US recently forced the Dutch to remove a memorial to America's own Black soldiers that died liberating the Netherlands from the nazis? On brand.

Towards the end of WW2, the French were shocked when the US refused to let its own Black soldiers join the celebration the liberation of Paris.
Socially acceptable to me, I took one look and decided it wasn't going to be for me.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.
My teen pulled out the enormous wool cardigan they have claimed as a house coat for breakfast this morning.
