I am starting to hate AI. Sure, it has its uses, but there is a thing as "too much": AI games, AI music, AI actors.

Don't forget the environmental impact. The energy-hungry datacenters consuming megawatts of power, the need for cooling water that uses up our precious drinking water, the hundreds of acres of nature that are destroyed to build datacenters.

I wanna argue that AI has "no cost".

Prices of computer hardware, in particular GPUs have skyrocketed, RAM prices are about to explode too. A simple computer upgrade now costs thousands.

Thousands of workers are fired to have their work done by AI. Now add unemployment benefits, debt, health issues. What do you think this costs society? And the profit goes into the pockets of shareholders, not the employees.

Define "no cost". If defined as "money from my pocktet", you are probably right. I would define "cost" a little bit broader. 🧵

Yeah, it kicked me out too.

In discussions with various people when they have some great ideas to put stuff "into the cloud", I force them to replace the phrase "cloud" with "someone else's computer". It seriously changes the dynamics of the conversation. 😊
