That's presumably why the headline $1bn figure. The case is clearly nonsense, but the cost of showing that it is nonsense is likely not cheap, and there's always the risk of getting a MAGA appointed Judge.

Facebook is far more influential with voters, but X is far more influential with media and political elites, so it sets the wider discourse. Why the UK government is on X, a platform run by a man who has repeatedly tried to incite civil war here is beyond me.

They *were* interrogated though, among other things that's why the IFS piece exists. Johnson and others appeared on the BBC to talk about it. In my view that's why Rob's polling evidence suggested people thought taxes would rise.

The GDP of Uzbekistan is $140 billion. 10% of GDP on U.S.-based products and services is certainly high, but not entirely unbelievable.
