One of those locations is a decidedly Trump state, and I know there is a movement to boycott those states but it doesn’t seem organized and there are still wonderful people and artists there doing things and fighting for rights and the environment. I decided to go, but it took some thinking

fwiw we have no grand travel plans but not like we could afford that right now anyway so it’s moot. I would be highly self conscious traveling if we could and I hope to one day again, but at this rate that will be true for a generation. I am traveling within the US a few times this year

Probably, but that likely comes from a real place of personal experience that those travelers won’t understand. I accept it’s not right to be annoyed at people who want to leave. it’s probably healthier/more productive to direct your ire at the government (as you already are.) it’s all just so awful

What's not to love? I miss the days of celebrating little notation victories.

Again, I will never know more than people who have decided for their own safety and sanity to leave. They’ve thought about this, personally, more than I have and I will never judge. It’s unfair to, but so many people can’t leave, many folks without resources. We can’t judge them for staying.

I’m not saying it’s good. It is not. It’s bad and worsening, but the casual conversation of quitting just feels… indicative of a movement that feels like it’s blunting the will to fight, not inspiring people to defend.

The left has too long relied on a national leader to save us but that has failed over and over. Community orgs like the national day labor organizing network, new union movements, and local politicians are in aggregate doing great work. If you’re looking for a presidential candidate I can’t point

I should clarify: I really pass no judgement on people who leave. It’s a huge decision, the biggest of decisions. Nobody could do it on a whim. But it makes me sad in more ways than I could elaborate in a social media post. I think home is worth fighting for.

It’s bad, but anybody with means and sufficient safety should stay. And most (not all) people with means to move also have the resources to stay. Of course it’s personal in choice and I don’t judge, but we need good people to vote, volunteer, donate, and set examples.

My new marker of artistic excellence is: would the insecure board of the Kennedy center try to cancel my show? Then I’m on the right track.

Here’s to hoping we can undo this insanity in a few years if enough people come to their senses.

Literally why I’m signing in right now

This one is kind of amazing though. That pivot is… *chef’s kiss*

Had no idea about the issue (just read about it.) I am relatively unplugged from substack but you are one of the few reasons I’m subscribed.

Why can’t we have nice things?! Without the nazis?!

Congratulations! Hope to hear them soon.

Feels especially blue in the best way possible now!

Getting used to the space, so far it feels like Twitter (which I never liked or used) but I’m trying! How are you doing?
