Proud federal employee, nature lover, cat lady, family historian. Based in northwest NJ. Always on the lookout for good food and travel tips. Been known to roam cemeteries for fun.
I got all excited about a "new" DNA match, and then it turned out to be one of my first cousins. *yawn*

I joined my local society for the camaraderie! I don't have any family history in this area, but I definitely have common research interests with the group, plus we can talk about deeds, wills and cemeteries without anyone's eyes glazing over!

NJ has amazing heirloom cherry tomatoes too!

Yes! Irish baptism records from 1790's-1840's! These priests had terrible handwriting, and some of the books are faded or nearly illegible. But I persist...

The bullshit never ends, does it?

I had some last year, but it didn't come back. So sad!

I planted a few in my garden in NJ, and they're thriving!

This is how it starts, and then one day you notice they have taken over. But I'm not mad about it at all.

Egads! That missed us tonight (thank goodness).
July 4, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Of course, that's what they're saying... but we know better. (sorry, I've been bingeing on your podcast and I'm mildly obsessed with the time machine)
July 3, 2025 at 1:02 AM
Did they use the *secret* time machine from @familyhistpod.bsky.social - I heard that's how we got Charlemagne's DNA.

I'm the same way. Is it native? Is it okay with acidic soil and dry(ish) conditions? Is it not preferred by deer? I'm buying it!

Thanks for the reminder! I added this podcast to my playlist but forgot to listen!

I live in Mikie Sherrill's district, and I was shocked to see that she had gotten more calls than Smith (my parents' rep). My dad is more of a "stern letter writer" but I told him he has to call!
July 2, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Just pestered my dad to call his rep, one of a handful of Rs in NJ. He's in a red district, so he hasn't gotten many calls - poor guy is probably lonely. 😂

Like Elon cares about people.

Was that a family photo? I'd love to have a picture of my great grandfather in his shop in Brooklyn, circa 1930.

I never thought to trellis the Virginia creeper - great idea!

I got into bed the other night and ripped a hole in the fitted sheet! Same reaction, despite the near-continuous use and regular washing for years. The nerve!

Two weeks, Mark, two weeks.
June 23, 2025 at 8:12 PM
Aw, that made me smile. But "we have 6 kids and one more won't make a difference"!! 🤯
June 23, 2025 at 8:11 PM
Where did you find the name? That's so cool. I spent all day working on my house history project. I met some wonderful people in the county records department - made my day.

I used to spend hours on the phone when I was a teenager, drove my parents crazy. Of course, I'm old enough that it was a land line with like a 20' cord that was always a tangled mess.

I'm afraid we're going to need a sequel here shortly.
