The Yellow King

Pelgrane's four-book slipcase of cosmic horror that skips Lovecraft and draws straight from Robert Chambers's King in Yellow collection. They also released a version of that with annotations by Ken Hite.

Paranoia, 2nd edition

This is the Finnish translation. For some reason, I'm writing a paper about this.

Laborinthus

A Swiss-French game from the 1980s that looks gorgeous and is also weird as fuck and very preoccupied with the perishability of the PCs' food.

Luna-Cityn puolustajat

A retro-futurist sci-fi romp in the spirit of Saturday morning cartoons. Just came out this summer.

Kalevala

An Italian role-playing game based on the Finnish national epic Kalevala. I originally ran it from the Italian first edition before managing to find this second-edition booklet that's in English.

My Italian is also very bad, but it's a simple game and I know what RPG rules look like.

Sláine

An early d20 game adapted from the 2000 A.D. comic by Mongoose Publishing. I never played it and didn't actually read the comics until a year or two ago, but I did loot some of the content for a D&D 3e game back in the day.

Visigoths vs. Mall Goths

A role-playing game/dating sim about when the Goths who took out Rome meet the goths who go to Hot Topic.

Call of Cthulhu, 7e

The venerable classic of Lovecraftian horror, now with a new coat of paint. Also big in Japan. My next game for a long campaign, too.

Top Secret

Coincidentally, I was also today gifted the original Top Secret boxed set.

In Nomine Satanis Magna Veritas

The French second edition. The English-language version of the game apparently removed all the satire, so that's just sparkling occultism. This is the real deal. Accept no substitutes. Also a gift from a friend earlier this year.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, 1st Edition

Not my entire collection is obscure, I promise! This is the second printing of the first edition (though still Games Workshop, not yet Hogshead!) that also recently became research literature for me.

DragonQuest

The third edition, published by TSR, of this classic 1980s fantasy role-playing game whose combat rules have been described as "tedious" and "annoying". And that reviewer liked the game!

Cyberpunk

Or Cyberpunk 2013 as it's nowadays sometimes known. The 1987 first edition of the game. I was literally gifted this today by one of my Werewolf players.

Střepy snů

A Czech role-playing game I bought in Bratislava many years ago. The salesman gave me a discount when he found out I do not read Czech.

SULGS

Or Storycraftman's Ultra Light Game System. A flexible system that fits on a folded A4, albeit in really tiny print. Released at Ropecon this year, which is why I haven't yet had the time to properly get acquainted.

Top Secret: New World Order

Merle M. Rasmussen's revisit of his old classic espionage game. I could not be bothered to dig it out from under all the other books. The "TSR" in question is nowadays called Solarian.

Tshernobyl, rakastettuni

Another @juhanaonparas.bsky.social joint, a freeform role-playing game about finding love in the Chornobyl zone of exclusion. I did the English translation.

Everything Is Dolphins

Ray Weiss's whimsical RPG about, well, dolphins. Tim Hutchings's afterword compares it to outsider art. I am fairly certain I do not own another book with quite as many pictures of dolphins wielding edged weapons. Picked this up in 2015 in Seattle.

Das Schwarze Auge

This is the 2006 edition of the classic German fantasy role-playing game. The production values are just gorgeous.

My German is, of course, very bad.

FVLMINATA

An alternate history where the ancient Romans developed firearms. Notable for a dice mechanic that uses ancient Roman eight-siders that are really hard to get these days. Apart from that, a pretty cool game. I think I picked this up at Conklaavi in something like 2002.

Betty and Veronica Meet The Punisher

A short comedy game about the classic, wholesome Archie Comics clashing with Marvel's The Punisher. Another one that I've printed out myself.

Nechronica

A Japanese horror role-playing game. I think it's about dolls. I received this as a gift from a long-time player who visited Japan.

I do not understand Japanese and I'm not sure I want to.

The Veggie Patch

Printed out from a PDF that I think came in some DTRPG charity bundle, possibly for the Indonesian tsunami. You play vegetables locked in eternal conflict with the evil brassicas on the other side of the garden path. Simple, silly, and fun game.

Sotakarjut

A mil-SF space opera about genetically engineered soldiers who get flashbacks from past lives. A really hefty tome and a way more serious game than you'd expect from something where you play pig dudes. By @miskafredman.bsky.social & Hans Zenjuga.
