Why is there so much business as usual among #sociologists during a #genocide?

@anilsghost.bsky.social reflects on #Gaza and how explosive weapons have left their marks on sociological ideas and the discipline’s “ambivalent solidarity with anticolonial struggles”.

Ok, I'm doing a version of this thread for 🧪 who are new to political conditions where info security is a safety issue:

1. Don't make public lists of people who are engaging in acts of resistance
2. Be weary of calls to advertise acts of subversion
3. Don't live post resistance meetings
This is my “daughter of a Black Panther breakfast program volunteer” coming out but anyone who tells you that you have to be public about all your resistance activity should immediately be under suspicion for being an op, or being under the influence of an op

I had the privilege of listening to Syrians in Turkey explore what the liberation of Syria meant to them. Return is frequently on their lips, but having spent more than a decade away from Syria, it is also something bitter-sweet, especially for those who came as children and are now adults...

It is so beautiful, so wonderful, so pure to see the Syrians who we have been so lucky to call our neighbours & friends during their exile speak of return & being reunited ❤️❤️

Syrians across Europe are finally dreaming they will see their home again, a hope so many had lost through the years🙌

The prisons and the people bewildered upon their release some after decades are beyond devastating. Mabrook to the Syrians. We wish you solace in your reunions and returns. Inshallah the day will come for the Sudanese too.

Amazing scenes out of Syria. For all that’s to come - and everyone knows it’s going to be rough, that HTS and other opposition are problematic, and that regional powers will do their worst - it’s glorious to see another of these monstrous dictators fall. The Arab uprisings never ended.

I want to be cautious but honestly...the joy of my Syrian friends is piercing my heart...may today bring Syrians closer to the freedom that they dreamt of. May the oppressed everywhere see their joy and be nourished by their hope...Ameen. ❤️🤍💚🖤

The ICC’s arrest warrants are long overdue.

The Prime Minister & Foreign Secretary must immediately endorse this decision. That is the bare minimum.

Will the UK government now, finally, honour its international obligations to prevent genocide and end all arms sales to Israel?

More than a decade after the coup, with the Sisi government facing a grinding debt crisis and following a logic of power consolidation at any cost, it finds itself at the mercy of Israel and its colonial hubris, unable to exert influence on one of its closest allies.
How Arab autocrats enabled Israel's Gaza genocide
Defeating the Arab democracy movement left autocratic states hollowed out and often reliant on US and Israeli support to survive. Palestinians cannot expect help anytime soon

The Biden administration continues to be the sole government besides Netanyahu's currently actively preventing a ceasefire in Gaza. Ppl can be in denial all they want, this is a fact.

The US is ruled by moral monsters and Trump isn't even in office yet.

The US worked hard to remove Chapter VII language from the latest UN Security Council resolution on Gaza, that would have demanded an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire and the release of hostages, and then vetoed it anyway. 14 for, 1 against. Utterly depraved.
