idk. its so frustrating because everything else about the movie is basically perfect and awesome but the story was handled so badly and hamfistedly in a way that just feels insulting. everyone go read the original frankenstein now!!!!!

I've also seen people be weirdly misogynistic about it too?? talking about how gdt's version is so much better than shelley and that it contains "lessons that shelley herself needed to hear" (actual thing I saw) guys you can praise the movie without putting down the woman who made the original story

and don't get me started on how the fans treat people who didn't like it. I don't really enjoy being called a "stupid book purist" for expecting the frankenstein movie to have the same themes and general plot beats as frankenstein

and yet ! gdt simplifies it down to "oh victor was an evil bastard and the creature was pure and misunderstood uwu" and don't get me wrong I do love stories about mistreated artificial beings taking revenge on those who hurt them *gestures at user* but it feels like such a spit in the face-
