I love how these people have followed my work for YEARS and then are surprised that I’m anti capitalist and anti girl boss feminism. My most successful work is about a refugee goddess who illegally crosses water to find safety, whose side do you think I’m on?
jordan.kimmel: I am a little sad that this is where you poetry has gone. A lot of your poetry is about women, trauma, and doing the impossible. This? What if a woman was a billionaire? Are you going to axe a woman for being able to hold her own in a man's world? What about the woman that believes in capitalism, are self-made entrepreneurs, and wealthy members of the upper class becsuse she did exactly as you taught her? How can you post something like this, and it not conflict with your other work? Sad. I actually enjoyed your poetry.

With due respect to Rilke for the second to last line, I wrote this after going for a walk in the forest whilst in the throes of despair.
There is a stubbornness to it. The beauty of the world even now, even soaked in the sound of despair. Still the magpie holds onto its midnight blue sheen and its velvet dark wings. And try as we might, there is nothing cliche about noticing the magic of birdsong. Even in grief, the winter sun finds every blade of glass eventually, the result a diamond like rhapsody. The august stag still visits the frosty, hushed forest and this will continue till the day his body gives itself back to where he was born. It is a reminder that so much of what withers and dies was once a sublime beauty. That though it may seem obscene, it is necessary to witness all of it, the beauty and the terror. Every couple of months Conservatives publish this article about how no one wants to fuck them and we are apparently not supposed to think they’re losers.

The natural world is not built to be self aware the way human beings are. Ever action we take towards each other is a conscious one with an understanding of some consequences. Using nature as an excuse for the manmade injustice in the world doesn’t work with self aware beings.

A Man Tells Me To Get Back In The Kitchen As though the kitchen is a small place, a place he believes should only fit women, he says the kitchen is where women stay out of trouble. But I remember the way women gathered in a kitchen, how grandmothers gave their daughters and granddaughters solace, the amount of women our mothers have carried through their brutal marriages around kitchen tables, the cadence of stories we have told each other as we build nourishing meals from mere ingredients - fierce fables and tales rooted in rage, how we plotted rebellions in kitchens, navigated painful secrets, taught each other politics, confided our fears, our sorrows, our anger - and found ways to help each other thrive. They relegated us to a "small space" but we made it magic, powerful, beautiful anyway. Get back in the kitchen, he says.
