Newsletter: It's time for a radical new approach to tech CEOs: mocking them, because they talk like idiots and provide little value to society outside of their dedication to shareholder value. They sound stupid, they do nothing, and it's time to fight back.

Computers used to scream every time they connected to the Internet. They knew. They tried to warn us. We did not listen.

Celebrity chef has mental illness

One of these things is not like the other.

All due respect to the chef and the seriousness of his condition, but a global news story? Really?

This is exactly what I mean when I say that it is impossible to reduce friction, only to move it around.

The text-making-up machine dropped the friction of "research" to zero, but every single person downstream of that "research" who has to act upon it now shoulders a double workload.
Librarian here. Got an email from a patron about our "poor selection" of books on AI, w/ list of new books that we HAD to get so ppl could stay informed about this important subject. Title, author, synopsis.

Of 11 titles on the list, 10 Did Not Exist. At all.

"Yeah, I got it from Ch*tGPT, why?"

This, with a side order of "maybe we could stop giving them publicity and creating a myth around them" feels like a simple thing to test
My minor contribution to the "masculinity is in crisis" discourse is that it's maybe not. A small number of very vocal men are in crisis because they committed a bunch of crimes and need to normalize their behavior, and people (the media, posters) continue to accept some percentage of their premise.

@aptshadow.bsky.social hello. Sorry if this is a silly question: does it matter to you the format in which I buy your work. Question coming from a financial benefit perspective, but answer as you see fit.
I own a kindle but lately would prefer not to spend money with Amazon.

@findtree.bsky.social they're playing your tune
I really hate how the education system and pop culture treats English history like it began in 1066. Why are the Anglo-Saxon kings left out of every royal history timeline? Why don't we celebrate 12 July 927 as our founding day? Why does nobody know who Æthelstan was?

I wouldn’t eat the snacks outside the toilets at The Crucible… a small percentage of the snooker loo peanuts are wee.

A Terry Pratchett book signing was going pretty much as usual when a man in full wizard regalia asked, "You write about magic with such clarity and honesty, you really seem to have a deep personal understanding. I've always wondered, are you a practitioner yourself?"

At Christmas time, we let in Deee-Lite, and we banish Slade.
