The idea of "proficiens" plays a surprisingly large role in the secondary literature on Lucan, where it was supposed to characterise Pompey's portrayal. Surprising, because Lintott had noted in one short paragraph in 1971 that this was based on a 180 degree misreading of Seneca (CQ 21 p. 504-5).

Common in Miyazaki's films: My neighbour Totoro (tiny truck), Spirited Away (car), Arietty (car). You could include some others, e. g. The Castle of Cagliostro, but the "getting there" portion is a bit more extended.

A Canterbury Tale (1944) sort of counts. The main characters arrive in a Kent village by train and spend the rest of the film in Kent (mostly in the village, but the final scenes in Canterbury).

The Spectator has always had a slightly odd status: a lot of fairly normal conservatives, but also Taki Theodoracopulos (apparently from 1977). It seemed to have some special dispensation to be somewhere writers could publish without embarassment despite his presence.

Anyone mentioned Pollio? (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaius_A...) The history doesn't survive, but it had a big influence on others that did.
