Historian. #trekkie. 🐶❤️ Leroy & Moose. Posts do not represent my employer.
This is good advice. I have sent anonymized student work to colleagues for them to grade. Not because I thought my own grading was necessarily bad, but because I wanted to have a record of what average grading of it would look like for the appeal.
If you are a chair of a department or supervise grad students, it might be important to collaborate with your colleagues on ways to strategize when a "problem essay" comes down the pike. It's one small way of protecting each other.

My book is about drug addiction in the U.S. from 1776 to 1914, when it was (generally) legal to sell addictive drugs. Addiction increased rapidly, but people didn't associate drug addiction with crime. global.oup.com/ushe/product...

It's #smallbusinesssaturday friends! Say no to faceless corporate crap and say yes to the shops in your community. As for me, I'm heading over to @moonpalacebooks.bsky.social to pick up my order and probably buy more stuff. Books are better when bought at independent bookstores!

Remember when Amazon held a sale during Independent Bookstore Day in an effort to undercut indie bookstores?

We didn’t forget. Support local bookstores during Small Business Saturday and beyond.

1) Amelia Earhart
2) Had 3 bites of a subway sandwich and a cookie #hatm
That brings us to tonight's #HATM questions:
1) Who do you want to see a biopic of?
2) And what is on the menu at your home tonight?

This is not the worst book we've ever read but it is the meanest episode we've ever done.
Episode 46: Sapiens

It's an ambitious goal to write the entire history of humanity in just 400 pages. It's even more ambitious to do it without reading any research.

TEA says that key topic examples were sent to the board.

Student testifier: importance of including world history in key topics. Educated electorate requires world history and world geography. Necessary to understand world events. Using the Middle East as a specific example.

A lot of historians, because he kinda sucks? Often does national hagiography more than actual history. For example, Civil War has a lot of Lost Cause, brother-against-brother slop therein.

I recommend Eric Foner's essay "Ken Burns and the Romance of Reunion." Some excerpts below:

The administrative nightmare alone of collecting money from students is enough to prevent 70% of educators from taking part in stuff like this.
I know this is *wild* to suggest, but what if we made history accessible by charging students $0?
Instructors can help their students attend #AHA26 by taking part in our discounted group rate program. For an additional fee of only $25 for each K-12, undergraduate, & graduate student ($35 after Dec 15), AHA members can register their students to attend. Register today! 🗃️

Let White People Be the Face of Trump’s Hunger Crisis—Opinion
Black suffering has never moved this country to act. Maybe seeing white families skip meals will finally make us admit that food insecurity isn’t fate—it’s a choice politicians keep making.
