Amen to this. There are going to be people facing violence in the coming weeks off the back of the lit match Starmer just chucked on this country's dry kindling today.
And the devastation being pushed on carers & people who use carers is ... unthinkable.

I hope you’re not waiting for some clever defence of Starmer’s speech. As you know, I try to be fair and have praised him on foreign policy. I don’t think the White Paper is terrible, but ALL of the language surrounding it is inexcusable, insupportable, and indefensible. He can kiss my migrant butt.

Fucking hell Labour. Good care workers are skilled and experienced, and it's a *vocation*. With 131,000 vacancies in the care sector, your answer to this is to remove any chance of hiring skills from abroad, and then what? Force people into care? With the inevitable uplift in elder abuse?

Both my Grandmothers were immigrants, most of my Mum Friends are immigrants, one of my best friends right now is an immigrant, I promise you I feel far less estranged from these wonderful people than I do the sort of person, born on the same island as me, who hates them bc Not Born On Island.
