Could maybe do something like: “Among the victims of disgraced former congressman Matt Gaetz was a teenager with a homeless parent, who used the money Gaetz paid her in order to afford braces.” Gaetz is a villain, not somebody whose career was “upended.” Let’s not shy from that.

Is it really “following the lead” to do something that was attempted 32 years ago by a flotus and then rescinded, though? This is the sort of thing the pitchbot kind of parodies...

some of the reason for filibustering is also tied to impoundments, even if that’s less publicly stated (Jeffries has stated it). It’s an attempt to claw back article 1 powers, which would come in handy the next three years. For sure, though— if the R’s want to nuke the filibuster it’d make my day

and endorse Mamdani. Please.

This is great messaging but I'd love to see a similarly energetic explainer vid about why impoundments, recissions, tariffs are wrong-- raise salience, basically, on article 1 of the constitution. Every single person you can win over or educate on that stuff turns into a *crucial* ally going forward

Agree that Trump et al are 100% following the fascist playbook, and I actually think Nichols does too— his angle, I’ll humbly submit, seems to me to be not to comply in advance (which I’m sure you agree with too)

I agreed two years ago that Trump is a fascist and wrote about it. But I keep saying is that you were not living under a fascist regime and you can still do something about it.
Also, when one of America’s leading scholars on fascism agrees (after previous skepticism) that Trump is a fascist, I think we can give the semantic argument a rest as well. Energy is better spent elsewhere among mostly like minded folk:

”like five years ago, a controversial man has been transformed overnight into a one-dimensional saint, marshaled in a culture war”

Floyd was a victim of police brutality, that’s what the protests were about- and in good faith. Kirk’s assassination: evil. Right’s reaction, from the gov‘t: bad faith

something white and off-dry I think. Riesling, the right white burgundy. The right bottle of bubbles. Just a little sweetness to shake hands with the honey is how I’d play it, and then let that heat, turmeric, black pepper run wild on your palate

Every car is a little different and I don’t know Mazdas specifically, but my 2006 Honda does have some -pre-programmed mileage-based “wrench” indicators that can be set for things like oil changes, timing belt, stuff like that, that the mechanic can adjust

I think this is what I’d say: a billion is a thousand million. There are 600k homeless people in the US and 600+ billionaires (many of them multi). We could turn billionaires into multi-millionaires, end homelessness, and re-invigorate the economy profoundly. Feels like a slam dunk to me.

I guess I’d say that manners and norms are important in ways that are often taken for granted— kind of like the parable of the fish who are like, “what the hell is water?” This is beyond Obama being substantively better than Trump if not the socdem champ we needed

Esp. feels like a joke because the “grocery price” Trump voters aren’t even paying attention to politics right now—I wouldn’t think of that as an animating issue outside of a campaign trying to draw in low-info voters. And prices are going to change between now and then. Hammer CECOT, it’s scary

play that message in v.o. while a fast food worker has a day from hell and they get their paycheck with the wage written on it and a grand total of $800 for two weeks of work and a message about the minimum wage.

can achieve more than one chaotic asshole. Anyways, my two cents.

runner up 30 second ad: "a billion dollars is a THOUSAND million dollars, and some people have one HUNDRED billion dollars. we should make some modest adjustments to the tax code."
April 19, 2025 at 1:44 AM
anyways, I think the issues that have salience, that dems can win on, are minimum wage, affordable healthcare that actually pays if you get fucked over, and tie it into doing that plus reducing the deficit, because "it isn't rocket science" and a group of non-narcissists working together...

smart people in this country, and together we can create a brighter, better future than whatever *this* is."

I don't know what you'd do for the blowhard strawman. He probably has to talk about how we can't "afford x, y, z because of all the trans people" and calling the barkeep lazy or something.
April 19, 2025 at 1:44 AM
blowhard, dumb ways, and then another guy (it probably has to be a guy) saying: "don't be that guy."

"running a functional country isn't rocket science. we can have affordable good healthcare, social security, safety for everybody, AND reduce the deficit. there are a LOT of...
