A place for me to vent about football (Chelsea & Notts County), cricket and politics (lefty) whilst waxing lyrical over music

Looking forward to the new album!

20/20 Duke - Genesis
This is the very first music I remember hearing and liking. Once again it was on while dad was doing work around the house. He heard my toddler attempts at singing and to this day imitates it if this album is mentioned. A lifelong Genesis obsession started here!

Man, I’m so glad I found this. Listened to it a lot during the worst period of my life. I have a lyric from it tattooed on my arm. Perfect album

I’ve left my 3 of the more meaningful albums to the end. When I was young, my dad would fly to and from Sweden for work. We’d stay at my grandparents’ when he went. My nan loves this and she’d put it on for me to listen to every night before I went to sleep.

Were I to make a top 10 of my fav albums, this would be high up. It’s brilliant and brings back memories of school bus journeys.

Another one from the road trip holidays, as clichéd as it is, listening to this now gives me a pride in my Irish family name.

I’d play this on my Walkman on repeat whilst I was revising for my year 7 end of year exams. Nailed the tests too.

This reminds me of coming home with my dad late on weeknights from whichever training session I’d just been to.

I’m not quite old enough to remember the britpop era well, so I was late to Oasis. I got into them as a teen - this was my gateway to them and others like it. When they weren’t being dickheads to one another, the Gallaghers didn’t half make some bloody brilliant music.

A good one to listen to early in the morning. Gathers pace in just the right way.

An enjoyment of “Rat Pack” and other crooners spawned from this hour or so of Robbie having fun.

Can’t really have a list like this without the Fab Four. My psychedelic student era wouldn’t have been complete without this; “Tomorrow Never Knows” remains one of my favourite songs.

Dylan’s a genius, no two ways about it. He writes like no one else and imo “Desolation Row” might be the best songwriting in any song ever. Long live the electric era!

Man, these guys are good. No real sentimentality about this one, it’s just really bloody good. “Group Four” is so angry, I love it.

Probably the last Coldplay album I’m really into. Once again it isn’t my favourite, but it brings back a specific memory - driving round a snow covered Lincoln, occasionally having to free the car from snow, all under the light of a brightly lit cathedral. Fantastic.

It sounds horribly clichéd, but as I got into Pink Floyd, I was building a bit of a wall around myself, so of course it resonated (not the Nazi bits). It was this rather than DSOTM that got me into Pink
Floyd.
This was an album I leant on heavily at one of my lowest ebbs.

For a while, this was my favourite album of any. It’s just so cool. “I am the resurrection” in particular just has a real swagger to it.

This isn’t my favourite Foals album, but it’s the one that really got me in to them whilst I was studying for my degree. When I think about the it, I remember my time at university, which had its ups and downs. I did however meet a lot of people I still hold dear to this day.

Sometimes, when we went on holiday, we would drive there and stop at interesting places along the way.
When I was 10 we went to Italy and this was one of the CDs we took. Going through the wonderful Italian countryside and towns and rocking out in the car was so much fun

Grandpa loved the boss. During lockdown I decided to see why.
My abiding memory of this is driving to the shop listening to “Jungleland” on full blast. It was when people would clap for the NHS and I could hear it as I drove. The sun was shining and it was good

I can remember this in some of my earliest memories. My parents would play CDs loudly whilst doing housework. I remember a time where my dad came in to the room, saw me by the CD player listening and grinned at me before picking me up to sing & dance along
