It is impossible to keep up with the amount of misinformation being distributed right now.

Like I know we live in a "post truth" era, but like, my goodness it is exhausting.

Partial *Horse bleep* here. There is a new system.

The "new system" being "upgraded" is simply asking a ton of experienced meteorologists to quit or retire. And replacing them with raw, unchecked, model guidance while cutting funding to the teams developing better weather model guidance.
Noem: "Frankly, the National Weather Service under President Trump has been working to put in a new system bc it has been neglected for years. It's an ancient system that needed to be upgraded, so President Trump recognized that right away and got to work... but that installation is not complete"

"record breaking lead times" is a made up statistic.
Leavitt: "There were record-breaking lead times in the lead up to this catastrophe ... in fact, one of the offices was actually overstaffed. They had more people than they need."

Given unfortunate topical relevance to numerous recent events, I'm sharing an excerpt from our 2025 review paper on "hydroclimate whiplash" that summarizes the body of research pointing to preferential intensification of the *very most extreme* rain events in a warming climate.

worth remembering that when Trump announced a travel ban in 2017, people literally went to airports to protest. Eight years later, Trump announces a new one and it's not even front page news.

We're the frogs and the water is getting awfully hot.

This is a joke, right? Are we in an alternate reality now?! We are NOT fully staffed. Not even close. We're struggling to stay afloat. This angers me to no end. We are breaking our backs to stay afloat and are so incredibly burnt out. <screams internally>
REED: You're gonna destroy NOAA

LUTNICK: We did cut programs writing children's book for climate anxiety

REED: How much money did you save there?

LUTNICK: We saved tens of millions of dollars on nonsense out of NOAA

Even if he was joking, the fact that the staff is unsure really tells you all you need to know...
One third of FEMA staff have been fired or left since Trump took office. They are not planning for hurricane season, and either this guy was joking about it or is truly as dumb as his actions suggest.
(Reuters) - Staff of the Federal Emergency Management Agency were left baffled on Monday after the head of the U.S. disaster agency said during a briefing that he had not been aware the country has a hurricane season, according to four sources ..

I don't know how to phrase this perfectly but...

An increasingly large percentage of the population has moved to "vibes" as a metric of truth. And that idea is being reinforced by a feedback loop of seeing others in prominent places in society, very visibly, doing the same.
The desire of chasers to "rate" shit they see as EF5 based on feel facts and vibes is wild, man. That's not how this works, that's not how any of this works.

As certain "Supporters" realize they've made a mistake in supporting their chosen person... Don't take this chance to "dunk" on them.

Resist the urge.

Thank them for recognizing their error and help them avoid another error in the future.

I'm always blown away by people who think a less diverse staff is somehow better.

Where else in everyday life is uniformity better than diversity at hitting a goal?

Imagine a football team with all left guards. Or a fisherman with a tackle box of the same lure. Or a diet of just broccoli.
Reminds me of a guy I worked with at a small, ultimately unsuccessful startup. He once joined a call with myself & 2 other women & said “wow, really feeling the estrogen in the room” & thought he was funny.

Toxic masculinity & narcissism go hand in hand.

"Greatness" has lots of definitions. (And agree Abbott was remarkable)
How is Jim Abbott not in the Hall of Fame? Pitched a no-hitter and a career 20 WAR with ONE HAND. One of the most incredible careers in any sport given the circumstances.
For those of you to young to remember, Jim had one hand. He had a pretty good career, turned himself into I want to say plus fielder, and in 1999, while playing for the NL Brewers, has 2 hits in 21 ABs.
