Sharing this again as today's news programmes seem yet again full of those pushing the obscene suggestion of us leaving the #ECHR
Patrick Stewart sketch: what has the ECHR ever done for us?

This is why you should never even try to accommodate extremists; Watson went out of her way to avoid antagonising Rowling, and Rowling has blown up anyway, because Watson isn't and won't completely submit to Rowling's transphobia.

Forthcoming statutory guidance could have a profound impact on trans people's lives.

I've written to the Women and Equalities Minister to urge her to reject anything that undermines trans people's rights, inclusion, privacy or safety, and for Parliament to have proper oversight.

Mild doesn't cut it...
I too have some mild criticisms of JK Rowling I’d like to share.
Outcry grows after multiple trans users were targeted for mild criticisms of the anti-trans billionaire.

Legally, there isn't the slightest basis to the complaint, even on the most extreme possible interpretation of the Supreme Court judgement. A shop floor is not a single sex space, regardless of whether they sell bras or not. This is just hatred and spite, unleashed.
The employee asked the girl and her mother if they needed help shopping. That’s it. That’s all. The misinformation, the insinuations (because the facts are inconveniently benign) are EXACTLY what was done to lesbians in the 80s. This is the product of hate and fear, not reality.

Section 28 was an appalling piece of legislation that not LGBTQIA+ people not understanding who they were and those of who were not understanding who they were leading to a lack empathy. This more than wiffs of exactly the same problems.
We've moved from 'don't say gay' to 'ban trans'. But this time, it's the policy of a 'Labour' Government.
🆕🚨 New statutory Relationships and Sex Education guidance published today will:

- Restrict schools from using materials that "encourage pupils to question their gender"
- Teaches children the laws about "biological sex"
- Removes all references to the word transgender

What we know so far 🧵

I disagree this is worse than 2003 it was a charade but at least it had a pretense of due process.
The people of Iran have suffered under a brutal regime for far too long.

But a US President planning regime change in the Middle East feels like 2003 all over again. We’ve seen where that path leads and it does not end well.

The EHRC paper on the post-Supreme Court code of practice is not a real consultation exercise at all. It is a charade.

Andor continues to be the most urgent and best iteration of Star Wars. I use to say it had little business other than being fun with slight political undertones and dark and gritty was not its vibe. But any sci-fi willing to THIS hard deserves every plaudit its getting.

Lots of very high profile UK biologists sign a letter saying that biological sex isn't binary or immutable and that the Supreme Court's ruling is scientifically wrong!

We really need to hammer home how the anti-trans side is anti-science

Nope, membership resignation form filled out. I'll vote labour for individuals but the party can't have my general support anymore.
Asked if Keir Starmer still believes that a trans woman is a woman, his spokesman replies "no".

This is a mess we're going to have male presenting people legally having to use female spaces because they were assigned female at birth. I bet the TERFs will love that.

I suspect most will break the law but this shouldn't be the default on any LGBTQIA+ person just trying to live thier lives.
6/ It now seems legally defensible in the UK to exclude trans people from single-sex spaces under any circumstances 👇

I think Lewis gets pretty close to my thinking. This will embolden Transphobes much in the same way Brexit emboldened racists.
Parliament, not the Supreme Court should have decided today. I've written about why that's so problematic and why I fear today's judgment will be used to further delegitimise trans people, even though that is not what the Court intends.

Trans women are women and trans men are men. My perceived opinion is any decision regardless of topic that tries create a binary from complexity is ultimately flawed.

eg. Saying there's a biological binary when Intersex people exist.

I'm Still Here - The last film on the best film and best actress nominees I'd not seen before this evening. It's great you get a real feel of it being a real family. Part of what sold me was I believed this was a film based on real events but fictional rather than being a biopic.

The Monkey - Hilarious in its gore and just a lot of fun. Dark twisted gore but not particularly scary. Honestly it was riot if you can deal with guys on screen and a morbid sense of humor you should watch this.
