Sometimes it’s nice to remember that in the midst of these scary times, people are still creating, making art, telling stories. Let’s support creatives like my friend Michael who is SEVEN issues in to his totally independent comic series Ithaqa:

We must end the scourge of gun violence in America.

We also need to have honest conversations about the ways internet platforms profit from fear, hatred, and division.

Both are vital to the future of this country.

This is the whole goddamn point
There are violent extremists on the left but they are not in charge of the party. You can find them on social media, not in the halls of power.

The violent extremists on the right are in congress, on courts, and sitting in the Oval Office.

It has been wild to see what were always the two most paranoid pro-Second Amendment scenarios—the government snatching people away and sending occupying armies into communities—literally happen this year, to the delight of conservatives
There can’t be any gun restrictions because we have to protect against federal government tyranny, and if kids get shot we just have to live with it. Also the President can send troops to cities because the federal government can do whatever it wants. These two ideas are consistent and reasonable.

1. The president is cheating.

His tariffs are pushing up the price of everything, which means inflation remains high, which means interest rates remain high.

But instead of rethinking a ruinous national sales tax, which is what tariffs are, he’s bullying those who set interest rates.

we need to accept that (a) reality is now completely negotiable and you can choose which ones you want to live in; and (b) the reality that the people broadly enjoying power in the country at this moment is, by design, almost 100% opposite of the one you occupied or still occupy

Controversial opinion: When it comes to US presidents, "blatantly breaking laws and violently violating people's rights" is a bigger deal than "is old," meriting greater public concern and a higher percentage of attention.

It is beyond belief that the main issues that Trump won on in 2016 were:

1) adherence to infosec protocols
2) economic populism
3) anti-corruption
4) savior of sex trafficked kids

My god what a fucking failure of information and fact finding

Here's the problem with trying to keep up with "news":

Just as there's no way for your body to regularly consume lots of toxic fast food but also remain healthy, there's no way for your brain to regularly consume lots of toxic news content but also remain healthy.

I do not know the solution.

This is spot on. Patriarchal masculine fragility is inextricably tied to American conservatism.
Anyone who has experience in an abusive household, or who has worked with people in them, or has read a lot about them, will be familiar with a particular dynamic:

Dad is full of loud passions & intense moods, sweeping through like a thunderstorm, unpredictable, volatile, often violent. He is ...

This "golly, let's not let politics get in the way of friendship" pap that we hear from a lot of Trumpistas is basically a kind of gaslighting, as though burning down the constitutional order & kidnapping people to ship to gulags were just another ordinary policy disagreement.
One of the many contradictions of Trumpism is that the whole appeal of Trump is that he is waging TOTAL WAR on every other part of society. But then it's totally unfair if anyone else wants to fight back.
The guy behind Punk In The Park shared a statement after bands like Dropkick Murphys said they’ll never play it again due to his support of Donald Trump.

“We don’t have to see eye to eye on everything to come together and enjoy what unites us, great music, good times, and mutual respect,” he says.

It's become clear that this administration is just a protracted war on anybody who's read a book without pictures in it. It's a miracle we're all still getting up and going to work every morning. The psychological drain is the point, and I'm increasingly grateful to the people who are still decent.

I just heard a guest say on MSNBC that Trump likely doesn't have a case in his Wall Street Journal libel case unless he gets Judge Cannon. Everyone nodded and agreed. And it struck me that we've now reached the point where brazen corruption is just expected and accepted as a part of civic life.

Democrats need to politicize the sh!t out of this. Not just to *win*, but to chip away at Conservatives’ dangerous grip on power.
In 2021, Biden admin awarded Kerr County TX $10m in American Rescue Plan Act funds, which could have been used for flood prevention infrastructure. But commissioners, facing political pressure from conservative residents, opted not to pursue warning system. www.texastribune.org/2025/07/10/t...
