Clever medical reversal study today on the use of albumin-corrected calcium finds that it's *worse* than just using the uncorrected calcium. Wild we've wasted our time with this (all based on an old unvalidated study of ~200 people!) 😭 jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
Use of Albumin-Adjusted Calcium Measurements in Clinical Practice
This cross-sectional study investigates the correlation between measurements of total calcium (with or without adjustment) and ionized calcium level as a reference standard to examine the potential as...

From the same OH Supreme Court that ruled that consumers of products advertised as “boneless” should reasonably expect bones, comes “being killed by a gas doesn’t count as ‘gas toxicity’”

The NIH budget cuts are both tragic and completely absurd. Among the justifications shared by the White House, they imply a NIH-funded study in NEJM caused suicide but ... it was just an observational study! They gave participants surveys! www.nejm.org/doi/full/10....

Did the Federal DOT just accidentally file a letter containing legal advice from the DOJ, instead of a letter addressed to the Judge, in the MTA v Duffy case?

Lmao these folks sent a threatening letter to CHEST of all journals?
1. This is so poorly written that the sentence that is -- I think -- supposed to convey a semi-veiled legal threat is incomprehensible.

2. I'm jealous of whichever lawyer gets to write the response.

On the tariffs @strangeloopcanon.com over at the other place has pretty convincing evidence that the White House may have used LLMs to come up with its tariff model and that that evidence may have come from LLM scraping of a Peter Navarro book. We are in the dumbest AI timeline.

Like most of the DOGE cuts, this is a good idea if:

a) you have no idea how anything works, you're so profoundly ignorant you're not even aware of what to consider when deciding if an idea is good or bad but you like firing people; or

b) you simply hate America and do not want it to succeed.
NEW: Trump cuts are threatening a standards laboratory who's work on atomic spectra undergirds the entire modern economy.

The lab is run by just seven federal employees who have been paying out-of-pocket for their own coffee since 1973.

Ok Bluesky — I recently pre-ordered a sleek-looking home AED from a startup (https://avive.life/). It's a little sketchy so far, but 🤞 they have FDA approval so hopefully things work out? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
