Demon skull.

More experiments with models generated using Hitem3d. This one went REALLY well, from a 100% free demon skull picture.

I've made the files available for download, LW 11.6 and up, also provided in OBJ format. Link will work for a month.

Wow!
Lightwave development has begun on a Linux version!

Not for the next major release, but targeted for LW '27!

More experiments with the Hitem 3d model generator.

I tried feeding in a small Bruce Pennington skull, and it worked surprisingly well.

First a basic texture and moving light:

I did a new version of the short video, Eagles over 2001 Moonscape.

* Fixed some minor technical issues.
* Better render quality.
* Brightened stars a little
* Lowest Eagle now passes behind foreground rock.
* Music added "Cloudless" by Cousin Silas.

Animated version. Background from Space Odyssey, Eagles from Space 1999 flying to TMA 1.

Space Odyssey, "Aries 1B" flies past a crescent Moon, while extending the landing legs, by me.

Here's an unusual one..

I extracted a moon landscape from "Space Odyssey", enlarged and cleaned it, then added some Eagles from Space 1999!

Kubrick poached members of Gerry Anderson's team, so this seems only fair...

#lightwave3d as usual.

Hello @thespaceshipper.com !

Given your expertise on all things to do with spaceship visuals, could you perhaps recommend your favourite "Art of" books, for Christmas lists?

Not just for me, my grandkids might get lucky too!

"Art and making of the Expanse" is a personal favourite.

Hmmm. Interesting!

Hitem3d did a fairly good job of modelling the BE-4 rocket engine from one photo. If I rebuild the wobbly engine nozzle, it will make a fine generic engine.

This is the bit. Lit by Earth, but the light on the Aries is from above the craft, the angle never shifts as the Aries moves.

One photo sliding over another, no perspective shift.
November 10, 2025 at 6:48 AM
There's a bit in Space Odyssey where the Aries descends towards the Moon that just doesn't work for me.

The use of cut photos on glass plates is rather obvious.

So I decided to have a go myself!

"They went thataway!"

Way out from my normal style, and I'm rather pleased with it.

I got the background by feeding one of H R Giger's "New York" (low res) pictures into the Hitem3d model generator. In this case the irregularities make it look more organic.

The R1 was the Soviet Union's attempt to master manufacturing V2 type rockets. It was the first step on the road that led to the R7 that carried Sputnik 1 to orbit, and started the space age.
