There’s a house in Fort Payne, AL where multiple trucks have crashed. The owner (Joe) built a substantial wall to protect his house/property. Locals affectionately refer to Joe’s house/wall as Joe’s Truck Stop.
Unfortunately, it didn’t help and the state decided it was cheaper to buy his house.

When I was at TDOT we had a street safety project in Chattanooga where a guy's house had been run into multiple times.
He'd spent $10k on boulders & had to get a State Senator involved before they put a steel guardrail in front of his home.

Whatever you call them - detached unit, DADU, carriage house, back house, mother-in-law suite - we - the Metro Council - just made them legal over one of the physically largest urban areas in the lower 48.
It wasn’t easy, it wasn’t always fun, and we have more to go.

There are Tennessee Coneflower seeds and Milkweed seeds at the Hermitage Library coneflower bed. This is the time of year native seeds need to be planted!

We could never say with too much confidence if we’d really paid more for our homes than our grandparents had, after inflation, or which cities had the hottest housing markets in the past century.

Perhaps the most annoying infrastructure issue in Metro Nashville has to be sewer capacity. MWS doesn’t plan until lines need to be over 15”, they don’t really account for new zoning, the state doesn’t allow sewer impact fees, and MWS can only require improvements based on your specific development.

If Metro wants to save Historic & Specimen Trees, they should be mapped on Metro Maps where developers can easily access their locations during prelim design. When properties hit my desk for prelim layouts, rarely do I have surveys/Altas/deed restrictions in hand. I do have metro maps though.
