I had a session the other day that was on the surface about a PC defending their homeland with the party. What made it good was the sense of despair I instilled as the DM as they tried to stop it only to realize the political forces were beyond their control and the conflict was inevitable.

The creation myth of Neferoth is entirely in dispute. The original pantheon of gods is long dead and mostly forgotten, and so many in the world attribute its existence to their angelic heralds, the Eight Solars. Neither the gods nor their angels actually made the world, but it's a better story.

My recommendations are: Infinity N5, Cyberpunk Red Combat Zone, Star Wars Legion and Star Wars Shatterpoint. There are also newer and more niche games like Marcher and Trench Crusade. Hopefully that's able to start you down a good rabbit hole :)

There are many cheaper and more fun wargames than just warhammer! You can always explore those without too much commitment
