Yes grew up watching the female adulation he received and it wasn’t misdirected. 😀

When does financial engineering become financial dismantling…feels more inevitable than not.

I posted about this podcast, “Agent of Chaos” sometime back. Excellent podcast btw, in which FT reporter, Sam Jones says that while espionage tells us about spies, it also lets us understand something about ourselves as a collective. While everything is a lesson, I think we could do without most. 😅

😬 This alone will warrant a microscopic rethink of everything.

The timeline of the two, late 16th century Vs 18th century might have something to do with the documentation and scale of reporting….also probably the degree of stigmatization of suicides. Pretty sure if we dig enough they’ll be some anecdotal reports on R&J triggered tragedies

You’re right…the phenomenon evolved from there where it was noticed that when tragedy gets publicized, the vulnerable tend to identify with it. In Goethe’s novel the main character commits suicide after unrequited love. After the novel was published there were reports of men imitating the character.

That phenomenon is relevant more to reporting of such tragedies than LLMs themselves no? Bloody losing challenge in our viral news era. That said, guardrails around tech should come from Corps and governments for sure, but parents, communities and grown individuals bear responsibility too.

With all the existential risks we’re currently facing I don’t think we’ll live to see the next bubble. Big tech is probably betting on that. 😅

OAI does not expect to be cash positive till 2029. Massive funding, investor confidence are fueling this “growth first -profitability later” model - similar to previous bubbles. Still OAI could be an anomaly (like Tesla, Amazon). As of now they have enough in cash/securities to fund years of losses.

Such a tragedy, but equally challenging for tech that’s still evolving to solve. Ideally such scenarios need factored in before the release of any tech, but corporations are soft on conscience & governments seem severely inept to regulate capitalistic abberations - bad mix for a holistic fix.

Haha still can’t be sure!

Your last point actually is the answer. Homeowners are being asked whether they want their communities to become denser or more crowded, and unsurprisingly, many don’t. It’s essentially the age old conflict between the “haves” and the “have-nots.”

Chillier than I remember, just for one day before heading back to London.
